My family always has sweet and sour meatballs. I use prepared mini meatballs, (Trader Joe's brand party size are the best), and I cook them in one can of whole berry cranberry sauce mixed with one bottle of chili sauce which is found near the ketchup in the grocery store. It's quick, easy and delicious, and just the right bite before a big meal like Thanksgiving. Use one can of cranberries and one bottle of chili sauce per bag of meatballs, and with 12 guests, I would double the recipe. Combine all ingredients and cook over medium until the meatballs and sauce are hot. Serve with toothpicks for easy snacking. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Tiny Meatballs 2 recipes
You can make these ahead and freeze then just pop in the oven right before serving:
1 pound package bulk sausage - I like Jimmy Dean spicey
2 tablespoons curry powder
mix and form little meat balls.
Dip each meatball in a bowl of soy sauce and roll in crushed corn flakes
At this point you can put the meatballs on a flat baking sheet and freeze individually then when they are frozen you can either gently put them in a freezer bad or container or leave them on the tray and cover it with foil. Take out take of foil and bake.
Bake at 350 for about 10 mins
These are so good and so simple
Another meatball recipe that is soooo easy:
1 or 2 pounds bulk sausage
2 to 4 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 to 1 finely chopped onion sauteed in a little olive oil
Mix all make little meat balls, bake or fry and serve.
You can freeze these too
These are perfectly delicious and people rave about them. There used to be a restaurant outside of Hudson, NY that was famous for these meatballs; I got the recipe from the owner

Since it's Thanksgiving, I try to be a bit more indulgent with appetizers. Since you're thinking about some sort of dip, why not try a hot dip, like Spinach-Artichoke or Crab Dip. I like to serve dips like this with homemade pita chips. (SO EASY!!)
To make the chips, preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In the meantime, take a package of store bought pocket less pita bread (any variety will work, I prefer plain or whole wheat) and very lightly brush both sides of the loaves with olive oil. Sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper and then cut into wedges. Place on a cookie sheet and bake until golden brown and crisp, about 10 minutes.
Hope that helps!

B2b, you think as I do -- nothing too filling. I serve crudites w artichoke dip, stuffed cherry tomatoes and crab-stuffed mushrooms -- that and cocktails.
Other ideas:
Mini quiches
Cream cheese/crab (or mousse) filled snow peas
Rumaki
Stuffed cukes - slice the cukes in chunks 2" tall, hollow out the inside & fill with dip/cream cheese mixture/(salmon) mousse and a sprig of fresh dill or a tiny bay shrimp on top.
Here's another recipe I like. You can scale it down to size:
Onion Bowls With Artichoke Dip
24 Servings
24 jumbo yellow onions
3 Qt. Prepared marinated artichoke hearts, drained and coarsely chopped
1-1/2 Qt. Mayonnaise or salad dressing
1/3 Cup Fresh lemon juice
1 tsp. Cayenne pepper
3 Cups Shredded parmesan cheese
Peel and cut off top 1 inch and bottom root from each onion. Cut and scoop out centers of onions, leaving about 1/2-inch thickness along sides and bottom of each onion. Reserve 4 C chopped onion centers. Steam onion on full power until softened but holding shape, about 5 minutes. Steam chopped onion centers 2-3 minutes.
Blend artichokes, mayonnaise, chopped onion, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper. Fill Onion Bowls with dip. Portion about 2/3-C dip into each onion, mounding slightly. Sprinkle each onion top with 2 T parmesan cheese, covering dip. Bake at 400 degrees F 15 minutes or until cheese melts and browns slightly.
Individual Serving: Serve hot onions with fresh vegetable crudités and bread.

cheese balls are really nice- they sell them ready made at most supermarkets or places like Hickory Farms, in the mall. Light is better, since the meal you'll be serving will likely have alot of side dishes. Maybe some salsa- zippy, but light, and good with chips, or the veggies, which you already plan to have.

I like to saute mushrooms chopped small (a mixture of portabella, shitake, cremeli, white etc) - in a bit of olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. The juices will release, spring with a bit of chopped flat leaf parsely and serve on baguette slices that have been broiled for a few minutes with olive oil and a smear of garlic.
