You have a setting that needs to be changed. I don't know that specific camera but what you need to look for is either a panorama setting or a widescreen setting in your instruction manual. I know that Kodak had come out with a setting a few years back that they claimed as a "high-def" setting. All it did is make a 4x7 instead of a 4x6. But this would give you black bars on your pics because your camera and prints would be in a 4x6 ratio. I know that they usually refer to this setting as simply H. The regular format should be a C for classic. I think that they also use a P for panoramic.

I have no knowledge of this camera specifically, but I just wonder if it is able to control the aspect ratio of pictures?

It may be optimized for taking 4 x 6 prints? Which is a different ratio to say an 8 x 10 print.

See if you have any settings that let you control the print size and if so put them back on default.

that is the aspect ratio of the picture,

some cameras have options for resolution,

1 MP
2 MP
3 MP
4 MP
5 MP and then
5 MP {3.4}

al though the 5MP are the same the 5 MP with 3;4, are intended , so that when you print the picture the printer dosn't cut to much out of the top, they are the same quality and everything.

Th black line wont be there when you print or download photos to the computer, it's just there to let you see what the camera is seeing,

STEPS to REMOVE THE BAR.

see in your cameras menu, the resolution options that it has,
if it has two resolution options repeated like 5 MP twice, just change it to the other 5 MP and it should remove the bar.

Two things I can think of:

1. Check the settings if they give an option for anything like a black bar or something. Dig into the manual or check online manual for more information.

2. Clean the lens and make sure there is nothing on that which is giving you that problem.

Sounds like you may have a defective imaging sensor (the part that takes the picture.) I'd contact Kodak just to make sure. They have an interactive troubleshooting guide at the link below.
