Go to your run under start and type in msconfig hit OK.A new window will come up and click start up.When that comes up unchecked everything like yahoo, msn stuff you have downloaded,That will stop them from starting up when you start you computer also anything that says system leave checked. This will get rid of most process and make your PC so much faster when you boot up.If you need more help just click my name and send me a mess,This will work,Oh yeah after you unchecked them hit apply & ok and restart your pc

I do not agree with Waypo's answer at all.
Sure there are a lot of processes running, but about 15-20 of them are your system critical tasks. Under the 'User Name' column, if you see it says - "System", it's a system task and should not be terminated. You also have "Network Service" and "Local Service" which for the most parts are used by your system, but not as system critical.
They do things like manage your internet access, your security, different managers for access.
I have a clean version of windows installed and there are 21 tasks running, and that's normal. Some of them are for my fancy keyboard and speakers, but don't worry too much about them.

Is it normal?, sadly yes. Most computer makers today add a lot of crap you don't need. It is probibly also making it slower than it should be. The best thing to do is install a clean copy of windows if you can. Otherwise, have a friend with a bit of computer knowledge help you remove programs that you don't need.
