pro- better though processing during the day, you can think clearer. Also, people who get a lot of sleep are generally healthier than those who don't sleep a lot.
Can't think of any cons except maybe missing the sunrise or sleeping too much and being late to work.

I breast fed as well, and co-slept for the first month only because we didn't want our daughter to get too attached to sleeping in our bed as we're very fond of night activities if you know what I mean.. Pro: Facilitates night feeds because neither baby or mom have to fully wake, and if they do it's not for long. You can sleep while baby nurses and baby can sleep while baby nurses too. Pro: You can hear your baby, and know what's going on at all times because they're right there. Pro: You don't have to get up to check on baby if you wake up during the night : ) Pro: Better bonding! Since when has a good snuggle and sleep not been known to promote the warm fuzzies?! Con: Makes the bed a little more crowded (or cozy, depends how you look at it, I guess!) Con: Limits night activities after you return to a "normal" sex routine Con: Some parents are worried about the baby falling off the bed or rolling over onto the baby. (I never had problems with this, in fact when we co-slept I wouldn't move at all during then night, and I usually do)

I think that Shakespeare sums up the importance or the pros of sleep in this extract from Macbeth. He mentions this after he murders Duncan realising that he will never have a peaceful night again as his deed will play in his mind forever.
Macbeth: "Methought I heard a voice cry 'Sleep no more!
Macbeth does murder sleep', the innocent sleep,
Sleep that knits up the ravell'd sleeve of care,
The death of each day's life, sore labour's bath,
Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course,
Chief nourisher in life's feast,--
Workaholics perhaps will consider sleep something of a con, as they may see this as a detterent to their activities. Another con of sleep is that it is an absolute essential giving us time to recharge our batterris and it is bothersome when studing for an exam especcially if you are a last minute person. People who sleep like "the dead" may sleep through a robbery wheras if they were awake at that time they may have prevented it. Oversleeping causes fatigue.
Otherwise sleep is imperitive to our well being and it plays a role in the way that our mind and body functions. In the study, which was published in a recent issue of the journal Nature, scientists found that volunteers taking a simple math test were three times more likely than sleep-deprived participants to figure out a hidden rule for converting the numbers into the right answer if they had eight hours of sleep.
Also The effect of sleep on the immune system affects one’s ability to fight disease and endure sickness.
In humans, it has been demonstrated that the metabolic activity of the brain decreases significantly after 24 hours of sustained wakefulness. Sleep deprivation results in a decrease in body temperature, a decrease in immune system function as measured by white blood cell count (the soldiers of the body), and a decrease in the release of growth hormone. Sleep deprivation can also cause increased heart rate variability.
For our nervous systems to work properly, sleep is needed. Sleep deprivation makes a person drowsy and unable to concentrate the next day. For our nervous systems to work properly, sleep is needed. Sleep deprivation makes a person drowsy and unable to concentrate the next day.
At its extreme, sleep deprivation can lead to death.
So remember sleep is a gift. Ask an insomniac. When you do feel drowsy or tired, dont push yourself to the extreme. Your internal body clocks have already informed the rest of your body that you do need sleep. So in reality sleep for the average amount of time has no cons. So tonight when you do go to sleep, sleep well and sweet dreams.
