Ewww! If they don't use the mop on the floor then what do they clean the floor with? Maybe that particular mop head didn't touch the floor that day but at some point it did.
I'm a housekeeper at a home for the aged and I'd be fired for such things! What's faster isn't always better. I go through so many rags and swiffers (we use swiffers instead of mops) to ensure that everything is cleaned properly with no risk of contamination or infection.
That is more than just wrong. It's deserving of a serious complaint to health and safety.

Can they ensure that the mop never touches the floor or that the custodial staff doesn't use it to mop up vomit, or some other vile substance? I would say that a mop should be used to clean floors only. For cleaning tables, it is better to use clothe towels that are cleansed daily. This ensures that the tables aren't contaminated with any number of germs that are present in the floor.

That is so gross, they use a mop to wipe the tables and chairs. I would write a letter to the school board. And contact your local health department, this is not acceptable behavior. I would ask them if they use a mop on their tables and chairs at home. Good luck and God bless*

You definatly should not use a mop to wash off the tables at school. Even if the mop never touches the floor it still looks bad.
You should call your local health department, take it to the school board, and take it to the press.

Absolutely not. A mop is for the floor. Report them to the health dept.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! All the germs, bacteria, etc in a nasty mop; And they are putting on the tables where you eat and sit. That is not a good look, and someone needs to complain!

my first thought when i read your question was OMG...you can't use a mop, there's too many germs on the flooor....
but if the mop is used solely for the tables, i don't see why not-i'm sure it's much faster

Call the health department for your county, tell them the story and ask for (or demand) an inspection.
