The majority of native English speakers cannot speak any language but their own........ I let that be their own problem, not mine.

I'm Dutch and I'm happy that I learned to speak more than one language.

Well first of all, if I was speaking non Native Americanised English, then I would NOT be on a HOLIDAY. This is becasue we use the term vacation in place of Holiday. To us, here in the STATES, the word Holiday means something like Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year, New Year's Eve, Independence Day, Memorial Day.
If you are referinf to the word holiday as in vacation, I take it you mean English as in the Queen's/King's English?

I'm now not certain what provoked this reaction from her, however all I will say is that this. There are plenty of trolls on Yahoo Answers. People say matters on-line that they could not ever dream of claiming in truly existence, on account that individuals are out of the blue courageous while hiding at the back of a laptop reveal. On this discussion board, on account that it's English speakme, we appear to get the entire English speakme international locations taking the pi*s out of one another. The UK and Ireland take the p*ss out of the USA and the USA take the p*ss out people in go back (you must see probably the most ridiculous matters that get published at the Irish phase - for an illustration, an American man or woman as soon as attempted to give an explanation for the years of challenge and clash in Northern Ireland as 'Tribes from the north and tribes from the south throwing potatoes at every different' Now that has the advantage to motive pleasant offense for anybody who has truthfully lived by way of it, however the backside line is, there is not any factor getting all het up approximately anything you notice written on right here, becuase a few troll seeking to motive challenge does now not talk for the thousands of individuals dwelling within the nation. I could obviously now not cancel my excursion on account that of a few foolish remark I'd noticeable written on Yahoo solutions.

Not really since I don't leave my own country without learning at least enough of the langauge spoken in the country I'm visiting to buy, ask for things, order in restaurants, etc. If I do have to ask if someone speaks english I ask it in their language so they've never responded with "No I don't". It's been either "La" or "non" etc.

Why does it irritate you? You must understand that in most countries, at least in Spain it happens, people has learned English at school but they don't remember it, so, they have only a bit knowledge to answer you 'No, I don't, sorry' but not to say you 'Sorry, but I only speak a bit of english and I don't know if it's the sufficient to help you'...

No it doesn't bother me if someone asks me if I speak English when they don't.... they probably just think it's cool that you speak English. I know if I met someone and knew how to ask them if they spoke their own language IN their own language, I would probably do so, even if that was all I knew how to say, lol. The only time I get a bit annoyed is if I'm in the country to learn their language, but everyone only wants to speak English with me, lol. I guess that's a bit selfish, because they want to learn English just as much as I want to learn Spanish, lol. I'm going to Cuba in December and only planning on speaking Spanish while I'm there because I want to become fluent.... but I know I will be bombarded with people who want to practice English with me, lol. I guess I'll need to compromise and help them out with English if I want them to be willing to help me out with Spanish!
