Recently, my roommate’s mother had to move in with us for health reasons since the rehabilitation center she was in was slowly killing her by neglect. My roommate and her mother have been itching and I just found out today after she went to the doctor that the entire house now has to be treated for scabies (little bugs under the skin that make you itch like crazy). I do not like doctors and have not been to once since my daughter was born 19 years ago. I don't even have a doctor in this state since I still consider myself a resident of my hometown. I am really ticked off that my roommate’s mom got the disease from a bad rehabilitation center and passed it on to the whole house. Do I have a right to be angry?

It sounds like your roommates mother had a terrible experience, but if scabies are anything like lice, they can be very easily transmitted from person to person. Having a doctor where you live now, has nothing to do with your loyalty to your home town- and neglecting your health is foolish in the long term. No one enjoys doctor visits!

I'd say get past the bugs, and report the rehabilitiation center to the county, if you have proof of larger scale issues. Kids at school get lice all the time- so the scabies, while annoying, may not truly be an issue worth hyperventilating over.

You have a right to be angry at the fact that you now have to got to the doctor. You should not, however, be angry at your roommate or her mother. The scabies is a prime example of WHY she was taken out of the rehab center in the first place.
But I think that instead of you spending your time being mad, you should be happy that she will now be seen about and will not have to suffer with preventable health problems....and you have contributed to that by being UNDERSTANDING..... =)

* Pimple-like irritations, burrows or rash of the skin, especially the webbing between the fingers; the skin folds on the wrist, elbow, or knee; the penis, the breast, or shoulder blades.
* Intense itching, especially at night and over most of the body.
* Sores on the body caused by scratching. These sores can sometimes become infected with bacteria. By direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with a person already infested with scabies. Contact must be prolonged (a quick handshake or hug will usually not spread infestation). Infestation is easily spread to sexual partners and household members. Infestation may also occur by sharing clothing, towels, and bedding.

Sure, you have a right to be angry, but get over it! You now have the reality of dealing with the infestation...one which is unfortunately common in group living environments like rehab facilities, nursing homes, etc.

So, get over your phobia and go see a doctor. 19 years without seeing a doctor is unconscionable. If I was someone who loved you "I" would be angry at "you" for not taking better care of yourself. And periodic preventive health evaluations with a doctor is part of taking care of yourself.

You have the right to be angry if they both (roommate and mom) knew about the condition BEFORE they moved her in and didn't tell you. If they didn't know, I don't see any reason for you to be angry at anyone other than the center she was staying in.

Being angry does not involve "rights". Get a lawyer and sue the rehab center. A fat check might improve your mood. While you are at it, contact the media so others in that facility do not have to suffer.

Yes, you do and so do they. Turn the rehab center in to the health department for both the neglect she suffered and the scabbies.

yes you definitely have the right to be angry. i would suggest you go to a doctor and see if you have been infected. if you have then get treatment for it and then move out which will be hard because you won't want to take anything with you that has these little bugs.

That would piss me off. I would eventually get over it because her daughter didn't have any other choice but to allow her mother to live with her. The mother, poor thing, is suffering more than you are right now.

I would be angry at first but then again don't you think THEY are angry too..... I mean they sure as heck don't want the whole house infested with scabies either.
