LOL I am laughing and I wasn't Even there!
Simply put, there is something about spontaneous little happenings like this that go straight to the funny bone; Why? I don't know, because most times, it doesn't even occur to me that the person might be hurt etc. My 1st thought is laughter. Matter fact, it isn't even a thought, it just COMES OUT! I think there is something in our brain or senses that makes stuff like this funny.
Oh! And I'm not so sure falling out your chair is a "bad" thing happening to you , as much as it is an "embarrassing" thing!

When I was little my Mom slipped down a long steep hill, basically head over heels but she fortunately didn't hurt herself other than a few scrapes and bruises. I laughed my head off all the way down! I, too, wondered if it was wrong of me. Now I'm older I know, without a doubt, that were it to happen again, I'd laugh the whole way down, all over again. It's like slapstick I suppose and it's visually very comical. Also, now we're adults and live in a stress-laden world I think it's much needed comic relief for all of us. I'd never want to see anyone get hurt; that would change everything. I figure it's o.k. to laugh when other people trip or fall 'cause when I do it, no one is laughing harder than me!!!

Although it is only natural to laugh, (I have done so myself). I have also seen someone hurt seriously as a result, as falling on a concrete or metal floor from about 3 feet can do this.
Yes this is the basis of slapstick comedy and as in most comedy, the laugh comes from knowing that the person although embarrassed and may have a bruise somewhere intimate is going to be OK and may themselves laugh about it later (when the pain goes away).

We laugh at others if it's an accident and not serious. We all do those dumb little things so it is just funny when we see we are not the only ones. If he had gotten hurt, I doubt any of you would have been laughing..we then share in the empathy and compassion.

Dont worry he'd have probably laughed at you aswell. I just go hysterical if I see anyone fall, I cant help it. But if I fall and people laugh I get a right twiz on, I am not amused. I laugh later on though.

Sometimes when people fall out of their chair it's their own fault. My brother used to sit back in the chair and he fell backwords. He wasn't hurt so it was funny. I think as long as the person wasn't hurt it's ok to laugh if it was their own fault.

i think its coz its embarrasin and cringy and something we would associate with funny, so it's natural u wanted to laugh! also because you know its kinda mean to laugh at the guy so u try to resist the temptation of laughing.. which makes it even funnier!
