You could upset a few Scots here; Scotland isn't a County! It's a country in it's own right. It is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, which in turn consists of :- England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The island of Ireland, is split in two. The larger part being Eire, which is an independent nation, and Northern Ireland, which as stated previously is part of the United Kingdom.

To the person who said the person was ignormant for saying he had never heard of anything further north than Newcastle--have you ever considered he meant "nothing further north in england??" Maybe, shock, horrors, he was actually being decent by not lumping in scotland as part of england. Perhaps he was a little faulty in assuming you were from england, but you can't fault him for not assuming scotland was part of england.

By the way, isn't the United Kingdom actually the country and the rest are, in fact, politically provinces? Feel free to call them a country if you wish, but I don't see England represented in the UN. I don't see Scotland there....
