My son started using it when he saw me giving it to his newborn sister. he got attached to it quickly even though he refused to take it as an infant. what should i do? let him have it or take it away? :(

It sounds more like he wants some attention rather than having a sucking urge. I would try to discourage that if possible. Maybe the baby has something else he could have or try or something. You are past the point where it is going to sooth him and it can be fairly difficult to get them to quit once they are hooked.

take it away he only wants it because the baby has it. and its a hard thing to break from some kids! the sooner the better! My daughters only used one for the first few months and then it was gone. sometimes babies just need to suck on something so we give them there bottle but then they end up getting sick from over eating. so thats when a pacifier comes in handy.

Take it away now. You will regret it if you don't. Any habit is easier to break earlier. Pacifiers are meant to sooth infants, not toddlers. Explain to him that he is not a baby-he's a big boy now.
Remember, you are the boss. You decide, not him.
Sorry to be firm, but you need to be too:}.

Explain to him that the baby sleeps all the time and everywhere. The baby can have the paci all the time because she can't talk or walk or play with toys. Tell him that he sleeps in his crib/bed only and that he plays with all sorts of things and can even walk anywhere he wants. Explain that when the baby gets older she will only get the paci in her crib so he needs to be a good big brother and only take his paci in his bed/crib.

My daughter is 17 months old and only gets paci's in her crib. When she wants paci time she'll go to her crib and say up up up.

I would take it away. He's too old for it. It was ok to let him look at it when you first gave one to the baby, but you should explain to him that those are for babies. Give him a special little toy instead. It will be bad for his teeth if he starts using one now. Just make sure you give him a little extra one on one time. That's what he really needs.

Take it away. He is doing that out of jealousy. No child really needs a pacifier anyway, not even newborns.

Take it away NOW you will only create a bigger problem for later and people will think you are just to lazy to train him the difference. I am sure you have said this is baby's and he should well be able to understand at his age. Besides it's bad for his teeth.

the sooner you take it away the better! It will affect his teeth! Just tell him pacifiers are for babys and he is a big boy!

take it away. it is for a newborn, not a walking toddler. they have no need for it at that age!!! plus it looks ridicilious. Be real firm and just take it away...you are the boss, not him!!! I took it away from both my kids when they turned 4 months and they have never looked back. plus it will screw up their teeth

Let him have it, what's the harm? I see lots of answers on this site that say how terrible it is for a child that age to have a binky....sheesh, it's not like he'll still be sucking on it when he goes off to college. Let him have it for now if it's comforting to him.
