To us in the UK it's fermented apple juice, more alcoholic than beer.

I just saw a special on the Food Channel last night that talked about Apple Cider. The show was Unwrapped. Apparently Apple Cider is not from concentrate. It is actually made from all parts of the apple---skins, seeds, core, everything. That's what makes it cloudy. Apple Juice is made when you press the liquid out of the apple and don't include any of the apple in it.

Real apple cider is pressed from apples at the end of the growing season: end of September/October. Cider has to do a certain amount of fermenting to become real cider and you cannot get that from concentrates.
In Europe cider is often drunk as we do beer here in the US. You can get bottles of cider from the wine shop or sometimes the grocery store - just look in the department where they keep the beer.

Apple Cider is simply unfiltered apple juice. The apple juice you buy in the store is filtered for clarity.

Some is fresh squeezed, and the cheaper stuff is from concentrate. It will tell you on the bottle.
