The child must be born first. If you could claim an unborn child, just think how many people would do that, then get rid of the child, either through abortion or adoption. You will have to claim the child on next years taxes. Sorry, but congrats also.

No, the child and everything else are claimed on
the ACTUAL year (i.e. January to December)
that they occur.
That is, when you declare your 2007 taxes, you
can declare the events (and your child) on them.
There are exceptions to events that can be claimed
after the year they actually happened, but
children aren't one of them!
Most of them have to do with IRAs, etc.

No, the child must be born by midnight of December 31 of the year for you to deduct him/her.

nope, a child must have a SSN, for that to happen, it must be born alive.
not all pregnancies end in a live birth, so that's why you cannot claim that
