Scott, that is the ONLY thing that would make me even contemplate the existence of a great 'power' as far as the in and outs of religion are concerned, it's all made up by man in my opinion.

Ok, I admit I posted this question to amuse myself and to do a bit of 'godbotherer baiting' but just to put the record straight on my beliefs, I do not, out of hand dismiss the possibility of a 'God', but I 'know' (just as believers know) that there is no possible way, with all the religions in the world that one can be the true religion and I am not prepared to waste my time on this planet worshiping a god I have absolutely no proof in, and in rituals which have obviously been made up, and evolved (hear that creationists - evolved) over time.

"It is by faith that I choose to believe in Jesus Christ my Lord." Answers like that just make me laugh, what does that achieve?

Norman, I have absolutely no idea where I will go when I die, and no way of finding out. That is the very reason I posted the question. YOu are deluding yourself if you 'know' you 'believe' you know, but you don't. You have no way of knowing until you die. By then it will be to late.....

ktrek - I take your answer quite personally, you are sugesting I am an immoral person. I treat people as I wish to be treated and am respectful of everyone I meet untill they give me cause not to be. I pretty much follow the the Christian moral code because that is the society I live in, I am not just using my unbelief to get away with being a rubbish human being.

I don't believe in any of it. Life rocks!
People believe in religion because they believe that death rocks - they just can't wait to get there.

I don't affiliate with any religion and I don't think you need to do that to lead a good life and believe in God. I think that religion causes too many problems .. you just have to look at all the fighting that goes on in these threads. Also, look at all the wars and killings that go on in the name of religion. If these people really did believe in God, then they would be living peaceful lives, respecting each others' point of view and not trying to force it upon others. They all think that they are right and that their truth is the only truth. The sad part about this is, I strongly believe that what we are all worshipping is one and the same, whether you choose to call it God, Allah, Jehovah, the life force or whatever ... it's just that the message has been interpreted differently by different civilisations over the centuries.

Religion is man-made and faith is often used as a means to ignore common sense.

Science is the true benevolent spirit of the universe. Science unites all people from around the world while religion divides people. In science, everything is open for assessment and only the best ideas are kept while religion insists on holding onto beliefs that do not hold up to common sense. Science brought medicines, fertilizers and energy while religion brought wars, manipulation and pain.

Religion is the taker of lives, the starter of wars, and the main reason for so many hypocritical people.
I dont go to church except for the usual weddings christenings and funerals and then really you only go for the booze up afterwards.
Religous people take all there learnings from a book written 1000,s of years ago which is never updated.
Which is the main reason why I dont believe any of it.
Look at Bethlehem its in ruins, Jeruselam its in ruins people die every month surely God or Jesus would not tolerate such acts of death and destruction in his birth place.
Good Question.

I had this exact argument last night ended in a stalemate.I agree
with some of what you say about being able to live a good and
moral life without religion.all you get back is you will go to hell.
people who believe in god have no proof of heaven or hell .all
you have is faith and that by its very definition means your
hopeful or it means trust.so you tell me if these are facts( look up
the word fact)am i lying....
I do not hate religion,I just do not buy it.If you do I have no problem
with that.live and let live.

Christians believe because it is the BEST thing to do.

One of the LARGEST things bestowed upon humans, by God, was that they had a FREE WILL to make up their own minds.

This is where you and Christians are on different paths. When the Y in the trail appeared, Christians decided to go "up" the hill with God, and people like you, decided to take the other trail "down" the hill and......well, you know

You are free to make a choice and you have made it. ONLY you can get back on higher ground by switching trails.

Which is better? It is better to believe and be wrong or is it better to NOT believe and be wrong?

You deny God and he will deny you. Believe it!! Good luck. Pops

Actually, the religious people were just discussing the merits of having boys chewed up by bears because they teased an old man. Turns out, it only APPEARS that this is immoral behavior. It's actually grand and mysterious and loving stuff that god does - we're just too stupid to realize it.

My bad!

In 1988, I was killed, 5 people jumped out of a car and hit with a claw hammer. all i can remember is a flash of white. Then i was 18 years old, I am now 36. Ihave no scare or any marks on my face.

And if you read the bible, things happing today are for-told.

How can you belive in what you belive? Religion is a system of beliefs. You belive all religions are bad and that your point of view is the right one. You follow your own religion. If you belive there is no God it is still only your belief just like in case of other religions. You would also like others to be converted to your perception of reality. I dont know why you think you are different?

People who do not believe in God just want to do whatever they want without answering to a higher authority. They want to be their own authority and live as they please with a life of immorality.

I believe in God because logic tells me it must be so. The order of the universe and design declare it. Not to mention how many prayers I have had answered in my life with nobody else's knowledge of my need but me and the God I prayed to. The Bible says "The fool has said in his heart there is no God". You can play the fool if you want but your eternal destiny may be in question.

How can you possibly believe that you came from sludge, or a rock? Spontaneous generation was disproven hundreds of years ago.
The only thing that's ever observed in nature is that plants and animals bring forth after their "kind", just like the Bible says. To believe that the cat and the dog had a common ancestor is a complete fairy tale that has no basis in science.
