That's a very generalized question. What is the cause of the pain? What pain management alternatives have been used...there are many that you may not have heard about? What is the emotional status of the patient...pain is perceived a lot more acutely in depressed patients...and depression can be treated, thus reducing the pain?

IN THEORY...unremittant pain "could" be a valid justification for euthanasia, but I certainly wouldn't just say "yes" without knowing a whole lot more than what you have told us.

If someone is already dying of an incurable disease and in a lot of untreatable pain, then yes, I think that voluntary euthenasia is an important thing and is legal in some countries although not in others.

I really think that it should be made legal in every country and if someone has already made the decision that they want to die because they are dying anyway, then I don't see the logic in keeping that person in pain for no real reason at all.

In britain, it is illegal, but in some nordic countries it is legal already and because I think the nordic race tend to be a lot more humane in their ways. They have a great deal of respect for their elders and a lot more empathy and compassion towards human suffering. I cannot understand why the British government for example, are so death-phobic when people are dying in pain anyway?

It isn't very dignified to let somone endure incurable pain and so, I think there is more dignity in letting someone die when they are dying anyway.

Dying with dignity does not refer to a lethal injection. I am not sure where you got the connection that dying with dignity means using a lethal injection. Dying with dignity means to die in the surroundings you choose be it at home, in the hospital or hospice center. It means being surrounded by the one you love with the things you love too. It means dying with good pain control and every possible medication available to help keep you comfortable. Dying by lethal injection is not called dying with dignity. Hope this clears things up for you.

I can testify that there comes a time in some people's lives where they can no longer stand the pain of their fatal disease process and would rather die; they beg to die. I think in that case, when there is no prognosis of improved quality of life a person should have the right to end their life in a dignified manner. We treat animals better than people at times. Unless you walk in someone elses pain, you don't have the right to say "no, they should take their life". Pain is a bad mother*fu*ker and you have no idea what you would do in the same circumstances. Take it from an old nurse who has held lots of dying hands, I personally would rather go out watching my favorite James Bond movie (Sean Connery, please), a xanax martini (shaken not stirred) and a good dose of morphine than wait around waiting to die. God love you all.
