Is it really true when you put two ringnecks in the same area, they will not talk? We babysit my friends ringneck for two weeks. Our ringneck started talking more and like playing with the other parrot. We are thingking of getting him a partner/friend. Is this a good idea?

Try and get the opposite sex for your bird. It is very easy to diferenciate te sexes once they have got to two years old the male has a ring around his neck.
Also try and get the same colour as your bird. If yours is hand reared don't go for a wild bird as your will lose its tameness.
Usually your talker wil encourage the other bird to joinin with the flock call and start talking as well, so be prepared for a lot more noise.

Are you SURE you want to get another ringneck???? They're a great deal of work! We have a ringneck, named Willy, and a pair of Alexandrines (cousin to the ringneck). If I had it all to do again, though we love Willy to pieces, I would have stuck with the Alexandrines. They're a great deal calmer, and every bit as comical. Though, I must say that Willy is FAR more talkative than the Alexandrines. I've come to understand, however that Alexandrines are supposed to be EXCELLENT talkers and apparently we have a very talented ringneck because his phrases are pretty much endless.

If you do decide that you want to go ahead and get another ringneck, you need to take a GREAT DEAL of caution in introducing them!!!!!! My parents have two ringnecks......male and female. Females tend to be VERY aggressive and dominant towards the males and can inflict terrible injury even resulting in death if she doesn't like him. It has taken my parents' female about a year and a half to even TOLERATE their male. Do not house them together unless you are absolutely certain that they are compatible.

It's a message board with all kinds of very very knowlegable bird owners/handlers. There is a section there devoted solely to ringnecks. Lots of great advice.
