This is what they are use to, what has always been. Give your partner options and let him decide on his own (inviting and fun options). When his mother disagrees, he will then be forced into assertiveness, thus be more independent. However, be patient and get more ideas of what options to bring. Good luck.

Some mothers are more domineering than others.
I learned.

I am married to a man who has a mother who has to do it all and take care of everyone around her.

It really bothered me at times, but then I realized that's just how it is, that is her style.

If you talk to her maybe she will loosen up a little. But she probably has to get to know you first and know that she can trust you with her "child". If she doesn't like you, you will have a difficult time. So try to get on her good side, and then you can talk through issues.

how dues he fell about it?
Is he the only child or only sun?

Normally that makes it worse if they are the only child or only sun, the mom will be over protective.

My mother-in-law was like that with my husband for the first few years we where dating and married... But she finally had to let go... Sometimes it takes time... My husband and I have been together total (dating and married) 13 years and we both just hit the big 28 years old mark this year!

You dont say how he feels abot all this. He has the ability to stand up to her and tell her that he hs his own life to lead. Or is he the mommas boy that always wants to please her and not make her mad? If so, This is a major problem.
