I have a cat that is barely a year old. She has a black spot on her gums. Is this usual? She had no pain because of that. What should I do?

That's probably normal for her. My Beagle has what is known as liver spots all over her belly. They weren't there when she was a pup. I know a guy that had a dog that looked like a black Chow. It was some kind of Chinese breed. It's mouth was almost black inside. I mean no pink tongue or gums. Everything was almost black. The dog looked demonic.
However, if you are concerned, make an appointment with a vet.

Some cats have different coloration on the gums such as black spots or speckles throughout the pink. Usually unless the cat has very bad breath or the gumline near the tooth area is changing colors you shouldn't need to worry!

Check out this picture for a example of normal coloration:

My cats have black spots on their gums. Just like some of their pawpads are pink spotted with black. It's normal, but you could always consult your vet to make sure.

I have a persian cat that has black spots on his gums and lips. It most likely isn't anything to worry about. I would have your vet check it during your cats next annual visit, but it is probably just the pigment color, assuming that it is not a bump and just color. This compares to the black dots on a Chow's tongue!!

I had a cat that had a spot on his gums. It was normal. He was born with it but if it is something new maybe you should have it checked just in case.

Obviously this is a spot that has appeared recently and not one that she was born with. If there is no pain upon touch, wait for a few days to see if it goes away. If not, consult your vet.

nothing...its normal for a cat to get those black spots...our cat seems to get one or two new ones as he gets older...don't know why, but our vet says its common in light colored cats

If it is not raised up or oozing ****, then it is simple pigmentation. My cat has lots of those black spots along his lips. They are like what freckles are to us.
