When you look through most of the questions on this forum that are about Christianity or the Bible, very few of the answers quote or reference the Bible. People just provide their opinions without Scriptural support. What's up with that?

You are absolutely correct! This is an issue, not just on yahoo answers, but within the Christian faith PERIOD.
"We" tend to forget that we are human and "ALL" fall short of His glory, but not of His grace." Therefore, our opinions, based off our experiences and education are not always the final say; the WORD OF GOD is the only thing that is without error and considered the TRUTH.

Furthermore, some opinions are on the tippy toes of judgement and we all know what the bible says about that;

Matthew 7:3
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

Bottom line, this is an area that ALL Christians need to mature in. Because, when you get on a roll with a bunch of Jesus jargon, catchy christian cliches, and holy-rolly talk; that you can't back up with scripture, you "weaken your witness" and do the opposite of what God intends for you to do, by way of his word;

Galatians 6

"Doing Good to All"

1Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5for each one should carry his own load.
6Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.

7Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature[a]will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Now THAT is the word, from the bible, WITHOUT my opinion or any alterations! : ) be blessed!

Because most people are beginning to realize that there are numerous versions of the bible.

Because most people who investigate find out that the scriptures, especially the new testaments were written decades and centuries after the fact.

Because more and more people are beginning to realize that there is much more to life and living then religion, politics, and greed.

The bible is not a clear representation of all materials that were available as it was written.
The various scriptures and texts were sensored when they did not jive exactly with the motives of various churches.

That's like quoting the constitution when explaining why equality and freedom claimed is truly held by so few.

When you meet your maker siting quotes will not help if you have not lived the example set.

I believe that many people have a general idea of what the Bible's teachings are about, but, they cannot quote a precise scripture reading. For example, The New Testament of the disciples account of the life of Jesus varies somewhat, yet still describes approximately the same story and miracles. Also, the Biblical stories are subject to the imperfect minds of humans' interpretation, therefore, even when citing scripture, they may just be citing a line of the scripture, and taking it out of context. My father used to say, the blessing and the curse of the Bible is that it is subject to so many interpretations. The curse is used by Satan to influence non-believers and to exploit it to Satan's use.

Because the people on here that don't believe the bible accuse you of using circular reasoning.

"Christians can?t use ?circular reasoning? by trying to prove the Bible by quoting from the Bible!"

The "circular reasoning" argument is absurd. That?s like saying you can?t prove that the President lives in the White House by looking into the White House. It is looking into the White House that will provide the necessary proof. The fulfilled prophecies, the amazing consistency, and the many scientific statements of the Bible prove it to be the Word of God. They provide evidence that it is supernatural in origin. See also Psalm 119:105 footnote.

A lot of the scriptures are taken out of context when they ARE used. The last time I heard, there was over 400 versions of the bible. They can't all be translated from the original text correctly, so would be translated according to mans interpretaion of what the original traslation means. Given this, we might be better off if people didn't quote scripture.

I see a lot of scripture quoted here. Sometimes people just do not have a bible next to them, or sometimes you know it is there, you just don't know where without having to spend a half hour looking for it. I hope that helps*

I've heard people say the exact opposite. Its mostly because the posts get really lengthy when you're quoting a lot of scripture or they don't know a verse to fit the situation. Also when you quote scripture sometimes it can be taken out of context making the interpitation is not worth anything.

My wife always quotes scripture, I don't think there's been a time she has not, only when it's something trivial, but if it's of major importance and her always wanting people to know what the Lord is saying, it will be there.

She also gives her opinion since it lines up with the word.

A lot of people just spew out whatever they feel, that's the only answer I can give you in all honesty.

Several possibilities.

Some do not speak as the oracles of God (1 Peter 4:11).
Some have not separated the inspired word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17) from man's assertions (Man is as a false God Gen. 3).
I will stop here for now.
Peace Be With You.
