I hosted a 'tapas' party about 12 years ago and this is the punch I served. It tasted mild but ended up being a kick in the head after a couple glasses. It was delicous!
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup orange liqueur
1/2 cup brandy
2 bottles dry white wine
1 750 ml bottle club soda
honeydew melon and cantaloupe balls, whole strawberries and lemon. lime and orange slices.

In large pitcher combine sugar, liqueur, brandy and wine. Cover and refrigerate for 1 or 2 hours. Just before serving, stir in soda water to taste. Add melon balls and other fruit along with a few scoops of ice. Makes 12 servings. This is an attractive, fresh sangria. Mint leaves make a nice garnish.

You have several choices here. if you want to be "traditional" you can make eggnog and spike it with Rum or Bourbon. This is a heavy drink though and quite filling. You can also make a cider and spike it. apple cider with cinnamon sticks for stirrers and rum. Then you have hot buttered rum.. heat the rum. make a mixture before hand of butter. cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar and put a spoon of that into the hot rum. Stir with a cinnamon stick. In the south where I live. there's also what i call sherbet punch.. you put 2 2 liter bottles of ginger ale of sprite ( or one of each) into a punch bowl. add 1/2 gallon of sherbet. lime would be nice for the holidays.. the sherbet foams in the soda and then you serve it in cups with ice. IF you want to make it alcoholic add rum or vodka.
I however prefer to be non traditional and I make what we call here Hunch Punch. Make a gallon of your favorite powdered fruit punch drink mix, then add golden grain or any high proof alcohol.. I use regular vodka, mix and be cautious.
Good Luck

If you're on a budget. this is strong and tasty-

1-2 liter of Hawaiian Punch
1-2 liter of lemon-lime soda (like Sprite)
1-1 liter of MD 20/20 or other cheap, sweet wine
1-1 liter of cheap vodka

For my friend's wedding the hotel made some excellent punch. It was Raspberry Sherbet, Sierrea Mist, and Champagne.
