There's 4 strays in my vicinity and I've already called out to shelters and societies, but they're all full and these cats are REAL sick and very thin (one of the kittens has already died in front of my neighbors house). I feed them table scraps when I can but I can't help to think I may be prolonging their death- and its so cold out side! What do you guys think?

PS- I definetly don't have the money to take them to the vet for shots and bring them into my house! I already have 2 of my own!

This is a tough one. Sometimes the Humaine Society has a list of people that will foster animals when there isn't any room in the shelter. Check into that. That way they will get the medical attention that they need and a home and food.

If you are unable to take these cats to the vet as you have stated, the local SPCA wll not pick them up, and you have already called animal control (often animal control agencies are required to take sick animals to the vet before going to a shelter) then you have the option to do everything you can for these cats to give them a chance. As you are have stated, the colder months are approaching and these cats will most definetely need shelter. Start with that as no shelter will ultimately seal their fate. Keep feeding them. Give them as much as you can as they will need that extra fat to survive the winter. Make sure they have water every day as the weather gets colder since it will freeze from day to day. There is nothing wrong with prolonging death if they still have the will to live.

I soooo understand your dilemma -you want to help the sick strays but you have 2 of your own to protect. I beleive that you have done all the right things - calling up rescue societies and so on. If I were you, I will continue to just feed them and leave the rest of their survival to the hands of God (for the time being). If they survive and get a mite better, you can call up the rescue societies again or trap them yourself and take them to the ASPCA or RSPCA or Humane Society.

Call your local Animal services department, ASPCA or pet shelter. They will come and pick them up and care for them, putting them up for adoption. Gone are the days when such a phone call only meant a death sentence.

Where are you located? If you list at least the town or the state, then someone on here might have contacts or know of other organizations in the area that can help you.

can you ask the shelters if you can borrow a cage? tell them you want to help but don't have the funds. they may be willing to vet them for free if you'll foster parent them. thank you for your compassion. the animal world needs more people like you.
