Nut allergies can be life-threatening so moderation is not a solution.

It's the protein in the nuts that is the issue.

The immune system in people who are allergic to nuts looks at the protein in nuts as a harmful substance. So it creates antibodies and releases histamine as a protective mechanism, this triggers allergic symptoms, anything from respiratory symptoms, gastro-intestinal distress, to even death.

Sami V is wrong -- my daughter is DEATHLY allergic to cashews and almonds.

It is not what is in the nuts, but the bodies improper response to them -- it acts like they are a toxin.....that is what forms the allergy. It is crazy. But even a TEENY amt can kill someone. My daughter ate like 2 bites of chex mix which has less than 2% almond flour and had a reaction.

It's the enzimes in foods that cause reactions. Not too much of something. The blood in the human body will react to the enzimes in food to which it is allergic.

One almond almost killed me so disregard the post that says moderation! Some people are just allergic, I'm not sure why.

Over indulgence in them! Moderate consumption is not harmful!
