Temp (nice!) accom in NYC?

Question

Hi - I'm relocating to New York in December and am looking for a nice, apartment/studio to rent out on a month to month basis for a 2/3 months or so. My budget is around $2000 a month (or just a bit over) and i'd like a nice, safe location.
I've looked on Craigslist but have gone off the idea of sublets. Any suggestions for reasonable apart-hotel type places?
(And now ridiculously high are broker fees?!)

I'd like to stay in Manhattan for these first few months...

Do you have to stay in Manhattan? You could also look into places in New Jersey especially Jersey City or Hoboken. Both of these cities are just a 6 or 7 minute subway ride into the city and you would be able to save alot of money!
