There is one on Dundas St down near Howard Park Rd over bridge from the College and Dundas crossover, I have been there once, it is o.k for a day or 2 but in the winter it tends to have alot of street people.

Moderately clean, there is no smoking allowed inside the building, and there are alot of restaurants around it and the streetcars stop up the street at the corner to get back downtown, take the Dundas car it will say 505 Broadview, it goes right by the bus terminal at Bay and you can transfer to the bus there to for access to the VIA Rail station at Front and Bay.

I believe that the hostel mentioned by the first answerer (around Dundas and Sorauren) may have closed down in 2005-ish. And it was not downtown in any event (although I recommend leaving the city center anyway).

Try any hostel reservation site like http://www.hostelworld.com/. There are plenty, including a very obvious one at King and Spadina downtown.

If you want Hostelling International, they have a presence here as well.
