Pros and Cons of the Cabbage Soup Diet
Pros: You'll lose weight fast, and can get as much of the foods listed in the program as you want. Although the diet is only for seven days (and shouldn't be adhered to for longer), it provides a great "kick-start" for a more moderate diet.
Seven Keys to Success
Follow the diet religiously.
Drink at least 4 glasses of water per day
Keep in mind that it's only seven days
Complement the diet with a good multivitamin tablet
Print the information on this site so you can refer to it daily
Eat plenty of soup - as much as you want! Do not try to starve yourself or you'll probably cheat and break the diet
Try different spices to liven up the soup and add variety
Cons: Some people find the soup bland. Some people have reported feeling light-headed, weak, and have suffered from decreased concentration (although some who have been affected in this way felt it was well worth it, since it was only for a week and they had lost considerable weight).

My mom did that and lost weight but it was very restrictive. She stuck with it a couple of months but couldn't take it any longer. The most successful diets are ones you can maintain. Weight Watchers is great. They have a lot of choices and they teach you a lot of good habits. I follow the core plan which is very flexible. Take vitamins especially if you do a diet like cabbage soup. FYI I lost 21 lbs going to weight watchers for 3 months and have lost another 10 in about a month by just making healthier low fat choices and I don't feel deprived in fact I feel really great. Good luck.

Of course it works in the short term, youre drastically reducing the number of calories youre eating. You can go on the Dorritos diet and eat 4 Dorritos per day and do the same thing. The point is, the second you get off the diet, all the weight comes back. And diet that requires you eat only one thing or a very short list of things is a bad diet and you should avoid it. If you can cut your calories that drastically, just cut down to 1200-1500 cal per day for the next six months and you'll lose weight.

It will work in the short term, NOT the long term. Your body will NOT be able to stay on it, it is not willpower when you can't stick to a one type of food only diet, it is your body telling you that you are depriving yourself of proper nutrients and you need to seek out those nutrients.
Why do people say it works then? simple, because any time you change your eating habits you make food that you previously had very available hard to either access or prepare, thus you eat less and cut out the bad things in your old eating habits for a short period of time. You will see the same results initially with the avacodo diet, the sesame seed diet and the raw t-bone steak diet. This is a large part of the reason why people on the FAtkins diet, initially see results but end up hurting themselves later, because they aren't getting all the nutrients thier body desires and needs (granted the cabbage soup diet doesn't encorage you to imbibe greater quantities of saturated fat like Fatkins does).
Excercise will help too, and building muscle increases your metabolism but it is not the whole scenario and not even balanced in favor of excercise.
What you eat is most of the game not even 51% more like 80-90% because you CAN lose weight by doing little or no excercise and just eating healthy, but you CANNOT lose weight by eating like crap and just excercising. Thats why people who say "well I hardly eat" or "but I work out x times a week" are still fat.
abs are built in the kitchen not in the gym.
Learn about proper nutrition and how to eat healthy, it doesn't involve starvation (not eating lowers your metabolism) and it doesn't involve a fad diet that is unhealthy for you like Fatkins.
Begin with gettin nutrition information from a credible sourse (not a diet book, but a nutrition book). My suggestiion would be to buy some nutritionist textbooks or you can look to Eat Drink and be Healthy, the harvard medical school guide to healthy eating- it is written more friendly and is not a diet book.
If you want to supplement your diet and raise your metabolism (helps burn calories and lets you take in more if you are eating right) then do an excercise routine designed to tone your body and build lean muscle as opposed to stregth training.
HIIT is the best cardio you can possibly do (high intensity interval training). Quite simply it is periods of sprinting (or swimming, biking whatever as fast as you possibly can) followed by equal or less periods of jogging (your normal cardio speed).
Then add a weight routine designed to tone your body, little rest in between sets and high reps 10-12 per set. circuit training where you do one of each excercise with no more than 30 seconds rest in between each set, then rest for a minuite and do another whole circuit is such a thing.

You already know how to lose weight. You know that if you eat less and exercise more eventually you’ll see the pounds come off. What’s getting in your way? Why do you usually regain the weight you lost? The answer to all these questions is the same “Emotional Eating.” Simply defined, emotional eating means you eat to satisfy emotional hunger; it means you use food for comfort or as a way to cope with life; and it means you eat for reasons other than what your body needs. Whenever you reach for a boredom-breaking snack despite your commitment, or whenever you eat to quell anxiety, that’s emotional eating. Whenever you binge after a fight, or double up on portions because your day turned sour, that’s emotional eating. Whenever you feel that sharp craving for your favorite food, that’s emotional eating. When we eat during these times while on a diet, we believe the diet doesn’t work or that we lack self control and then look for the quickest way to lose weight (fasting/diet pills, ect) after eating all we can since we already messed the diet day up.
Get control of your emotional eating and any diet will work. Best of Luck !

Any diet that limits your intake will help you loose weight. The problem is keeping it off. If you just want to drop 5 lbs in a short amount of time -- it will work, but if you want long-term results -- do a sensible low-carb/high protein diet.

yeah. for me, it is tasteless and very light but it works. the thing is,
you have to condition yourself to finishing it for at least a week
and you will see that you become lighter in weight and in feeling.
reminder: you have to determine how much you weigh before
starting the cabbage soup diet. goodluck.
