a small attache case or a duffel bag about 18" long by 12" by 12" is regular size carryon, and you must have all prescription drugs in the original bottles and not in a pack where no doctors name is present, or the lable is unreadable either...best not to have carryon after all the crap with liquids etc lately..and for goodness sakes have a prescription copy if you have no lable.

Carry on size depends on the carrier. On American Airlines your carry on bag should not exceed 45 linear inches (length + width + height). Continental it is 51 linear inches. I would check the "travel information" tab on your carriers site

it appears that as long as the sleeping pills are solid pill form you should be ok, but here is the link to allowed and prohibited items for reference:

Taken from Ryanair's internet site; "Extra/outsized cabin luggage will likely be refused on the boarding gate, or in which to be had, located within the preserve of the plane for a cost of £forty/€forty. If you're not sure, investigate on the Bag Drop table earlier than going by way of safeguard." So, sure you're going to nonetheless be in a position to board the aircraft however your hand baggage will both be positioned within the preserve at a cost of £forty/€forty or they're going to refuse to take it & you'll be able to ought to depart it at the back of.
