Not entirely. Many people sleep with the window open during all seasons. Sleeping with the window open in the summer is better than the winter. The summer offers more humidity in the air and viruses do not like humidity. In the winter, the air is dryer which can lead to more viruses since dryer air is needed for viruses to survive. This could be what your friend is thinking. If a person has a good humidifier, you decrease your chances of viruses lying dormant within the winter air.

That all depends. If you are prone to seasonal nightly allergies or prone to getting colds and other things like climate may determine if you should or shouldn't sleep with your window open. If you are susceptible to getting colds or other upper respiratory problems, I wouldn't recommend you sleeping with the window open. However if you live in a hot climate and it is hot at night, you may get away with sleeping with your window open. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. Don't worry if your friends think your actions are "strange" or "weird", just do what you feel most comfortable in doing.

Good luck and may you get a good nights rest!
