I think it's only a matter of time before we're all speaking the same language - a lot of countries have an official second language so people can communicate with a higher percentage of the world's population. Basically, at the moment, if you can speak English, French or Spanish, you'll be able to talk to almost anyone in the world. It won't be long before most of the world will be like Wales, where the main language is English and the second language will be the original native language.

Each person has his/her own reasons, in my case, my native language is Spanish, and I live in Spain, so I don't have any need to learn any different language, but I find it interesting, and also, by knowing more languages you may improve your general knowledge, so, for instance, you look for a tutorial or even a new in Internet, if you read it in your own language, you may find it quite reduced, if you look for news out of your own country, you may find other point of view more impartial, and more general...

Some languages aren't all that different, like Spanish/Portuguese and Italian. Others are way different, like Basque. It makes the world a more interesting place.

Because I have to.
I speak Japanese as my first language, but I wanted to come to UK to attend an art college. So I had to learn English and had to be able to speak it, as Japanese is not commonly spoken in UK. So I speak English.
I tell you, it's very convenient to be able to speak different languages, if you live abroad.
