OK, deep breath time.
On the plus side, you clearly can read and write well so you're ahead of many high school dropouts in the US. Also, the fact that you're looking into this at all suggests that you're feeling at least somewhat ready to move beyond the depression.
There are a multitude of books available at your local library to teach you to cook and prepare a CV. Using a bus is pretty intuitive - or I'm sure a friend or your Dad (or Mom) could take a few minutes to show you how to read the schedule.
I don't know enough about the British system to know what resources are currently available for you or how you should go about pursuing your education. But, if you wanted to do the American equivalent (called a GED or Graduate Equivalency Diploma) you could find information through a distance learning college such as Thomas Edison State College (www.tesc.edu).
I suspect, if you are sufficiently motivated, that you could catch up enough to do the GCSE at college and the school will have the resources to show you how to put the program together and detemine the basics you need.
It's OK to be scared, but you can do this.

Okay.... I'm altering the beginning of my answer ---- I took my own advice and looked at the questions and answers that are posted by Clemence. So.... "she"? is an 18 year old and a 12 year old at exactly the same time.....
So, the truth is that Clemence is not telling the truth in any questions or answers. It would be good for Clemence to be banned from Yahoo Answers. ---------- You can read the rest of my answer if you want to but it won't matter one way or the other.
Beginning of my first answer:
Are you retarded? If not then you can figure this out for yourself.
It isn't dim-wits that take entry level courses. That's silly.
Are you too proud to do what you need to do to advance your knowledge and skills?!
For starters quit wasting your time on the internet. The only thing stupid you are doing is claiming that you cannot learn. Duh, yup, Ummmmm if you can learn to master a keyboard on a computer you can do other things too.
If you are as old as you say ---- get a job sweeping sidewalks or raking leaves. But I doubt that you are as needy as you claim to be.
Get off your fanny and go to work. Scrub your own floor -- clean the toilet, wash the dishes -- bake a pie. You can obviously read -- so read a good book.
Please get off of the computer and don't keep asking the same things over and over again. Take the answers that you have received and put them to good use.

First, do you have your GED? Or is that the same thing? You can get books on studying for it and pass it- making you equal to a high school graduate. That's your first step. Second you can start taking either community college courses by TV, Internet or both- even if its one at a time you are still learning! Focus on a two year AA degree- who cares how long if you get it!something that will get you a job- then many business' will help you with high education- your writing and knowledge of your situation shows your are not lacking in "smarts" by any means- Near us at the community college they even have short term "community classes" which means you do not have to be a reg. student- you can just take the class. Medical billing, Notary and other jobs can be got from 1-4 classes at about 50-65.00 a piece- the money would benefit both you and your family, and your self esteem. Don't give up- the Internet is a wonderful source of info too- even if you have to do it all by phone and email- contact your local high school district and find out your options- I bet you'll have more than you realize! Good luck to you (and your family) sounds like your father has alot on his plate....

Well, you're on the internet. An online cook book or something will help you experiment with cooking. There are literally a billions of "how tos" on getting a career too.
Also perhaps there's a school nearby with a guidance counsellor? Especially a college. They may have various programs that will help. Including internet courses and scholarship funding and suchlike.
I'm not familiar with the English school structures as they're different from the ones used in America.
Your schooling needs to be attended to.. not for what you can learn as much as what you can prove you've learned. In getting a decent job, that's what they want to know. I left school early, and it has certainly gotten in the way of getting jobs I was otherwise qualified for, and kept me in the lower salary range for my career.
You seem smart enough from the way you wrote this, but you'll need to be able to prove it to future employers, unless you go after something like web design.
I wish you lots of luck.

If you do not know how to use a bus at the age of 18, even if you missed 4 years of school, then there is something seriously wrong with you.
Find a mental health professional. That's your only option at this point.

Sounds like you have a pretty big situation on your hands. I'd suggest that you find someone (anyone) that you could find to trust to work it out. Talk to the college about doing your GCSE's there and explain your situation. If you're not suited for them, they'll have some idea about what you can do.
Good luck

Okay it looks like you get lots of advice here but perhaps not relevant to you. I can't tell what country you are in. I do not know what GCSE's are However the province I live in Ontario Canada has correspondence courses offered by the govt. They were free until a couple of years ago but are still very reasonable. I imagine wherever you are has something similiar. Contact your ministry of education. You complete them at whatever speed you can handle.

hi, dont worry theres a way round this! you could goto a college and do a course there which is designed for people who dont like school where you go 3 days a week and do work. But at the end of the course instead of taking gcse exams you are given a mark which is equivelent to the gcse and is nationally recognised

AGAIN WITH THE SAME QUESTIONS!!
what are you really fishing for?
You have been asking questions on this same theme for months
Do you want someone to just give you a diploma?
You are not STUPID
You are not dumb
There is nothing preventing you from earning your HS diploma but time and yourself
If you seriously want to have discipline instilled into you, contact an army recruiter, they will certainly help you on both accounts
