Me and my man are Unofficially engaged. He even bought me an unofficial ring, a nice ring but he said it was not good enough for an engagement ring. (a promise ring he calls it)He told me he wants to marry me, and we live together now, but we have both been married before and we want to be right this time. I don't know why I have this ring because I feel stupid telling people that we are getting married but he has not officially asked yet, but I have a ring??????
He said he wants a sweet proposal that I will not forget and we have even looked at some different rings, he likes the old antique looking rings. We talk about our future all the time. I just make a joke about it now and say it is my " marking his territory ring". He does not like that joke, but I get a kick out of it. He** what else do I say? We have not been together even a year yet and I think we should wait a little longer so I have not questioned or really given him a hard time about it. Just the little jokes once or twice. I believe when WE knows for sure it will be a great thing.

It kinda depends what you mean by it. One could say that if you two agree to get married and start planning for the wedding, but don't tell anyone you're doing it, this would be an "unofficial" engagement.

Another way to look at it would be that if you two decide to get married and start telling people you're "engaged", but he hasn't "proposed" or gave you a ring - some people would consider it an "unofficial" engagement. I personally feel that once you decide to get married and start telling people you're engaged - this makes it "official", regardless of the presence or the absence of the ring.

Yes there's such a thing. Me and my BF have been "unofficially engaged" for a little while now. Everyone knows we're getting married I'm just waiting patiently for my ring. He told me last night in a couple weeks so we shall see but there is such a thing and no it doesn't sound silly!

Unofficial engaged mean you two have kind of agreed that you will get married but he still needs to propose and get you a ring and make the announcement that you are engaged.

Sure there is. unoffically engaged is when you fall in love and you and your partner have already talked about getting married and you know that you will but he has not proposed so it is not official yet. Or you can say that you are being "courted" which means you are in a very serious relationship and he is courting you until your engagement! Hope this helps you out with what you were wanting to know.

I was unoffically engaged - he had given me a promise ring (you don't have to have one) and he courted me! Now, we are married!

In my opinion, no. You are engaged when one of you has asked the other one to be their forever and their is an engagement ring involved. Unti then, you are still just boyfriend and girlfriend.

I've always kinda thought that a promise ring was what that meant, you're not quite engaged yet, but you're planning on getting engaged.

No, that's called "wishful thinking". You are engaged when you have a ring and a date.

Sorry hunny but I'm afraid you already know the answer to that question and if you don't the answer is no. If he hasn't asked you then you aren't engaged....
