I just recently weaned off of Effexor XR, & this is actually just my second day without it at all. I have no problems except for the 'brain impulses' is the best way I know how to describe it. It's like Vertigo I guess. It is horrible, I hate it. I feel like my head is floating. Is there anyone who has experienced this & if you have, how long can I expect this to last & what did you do to help you through this? Only serious answers please!

When I was discontinuing Effexor (I am not sure if it was XR or not), after a day or two, I started getting what I can only describe as electrical shock sensations. They were frequent, and they were disturbing. I don't recall having what you described exactly, as I was preoccupied with these "shock tinglings" every few seconds. The shocks went away with time (within 4-7 days after completely discontinuing Effexor, I think). My secret was to go off the effexor very slowly. Once I got to the point where I was only taking half a pill, I would break the half pieces into quarters, and take a quarter at a time. After doing that for a while (3-4 days, I guess), I would break a tablet into tiny crumbs, and I would take just enough of the crumbs for the shocks to subside. It was a gradual process, and it was uncomfortable, but I did come through it. I hope that my answer has been helpful in some way to you.

I am currently coming off of Effexor xr also. I tried about 2 months ago and hated the light headed feeling. I went to the ER because I thought there was something really wrong. Now I have found that almost everyone that comes off of this experiences "vertigo". Its like my brain wont catch up with my eyes. I get nausiated also. I just started to wean myself off as of a couple of days ago. I have been on it for 9 months, and I always feel tired and zoned out. I couldnt take that anymore, so now i am doing what your doing. Having to battle this crazy feeling. I recommend calling ur doctor though if you start getting really deppressed or your anxiety gets bad. I know how that is, and believe me, its better to be treated than to go it alone. I wish u the best of luck. Let me know how your doing!

Something similar happened to me with it, but i didn't wean off of it - i stopped it cold turkey (which i highly don't suggest to anyone). I had problems where it felt like my heart was skipping beats - that is the best way i can describe it. I also had those episodes where i'd be fine one second and the next just felt light-headed and dizzy like i was going to pass out. It's all just your body wanting what it used to have. I agree with the girl who said to keep hydrated. That is best for your body - stay hydrated and just go with the flow, each day it'll get better. It took me about 3 months to completey detox from it, but again i went cold turkey on it - you should be considerably shorter since you weaned off it - but it's only day 2. :) Good luck!

This may be a side effect of coming off of anything you have been on for a while, it is kinda like a withdrawl. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids so you stay hydrated. Also, contact your doctor. Maybe there is something that can level you out. Also, you may be just developing a cold and didn't really think of that (inner ear). Either way it would be a good idea to get a check up to make sure everything is working okay.

Hope you get better and good luck

I've been on and off of Effexor XR, as well. I remember that when I went off of it, my pores sort of felt like they were popping, or something. It's best to GRADUALLY wean yourself off of the medication. That is to say, you should gradually reduce your dosage until you no longer have to take it, so that the withdrawal symptoms won't be as severe.

You didn't need that **** in the first place.
Effexor XR has been known to increase suicidal tendencies, anxiety, and insomnia in patients.
No pyschological drugs are ever needed to cure a mind problem.

I was once on that ****, and I suffered what you are experiencing as well.
It's your mind trying to recover from the shock of having that dangerous **** in it.
It will go away with time. I don't remember how long, but it will eventually go away.
