Rotts are a difficult breed. They are dominant, and if you do not take your role as the leader, the Rottie will. I have done rescue for years, and every problem I've seen with this breed was a people problem, not a dog problem. Get your puppy in an obedience class, and work with her every day. Learn how to establish yourself as the leader, and be sure to keep your little girl in check. It is best to find a trainer that has experience with this breed, and follow their advise. Sometimes it will feel like you are being mean, but remember, your dog is not a baby, it is an intelligent animal, and she is looking to you for direction! If you take your role seriously, she will be happy, and be the best dog you have ever owned!!

Hi i had a rotweiller, she was the biggest baby you ever saw she would never hurt a fly. She loved all babies, and young kids. But she should of been really wicked because i rescued her from a scrap yard when she was almost 1 yr old. She was so skinny you could count every bone in her body. \her neck was all crusty and bleeding from her chain . It was also infected. I brought her home . She was very badly treated at the scrap yard I had her operated not to have babies. And with tender loving care she came to trust people we loved her very much but she is dead noew she lived till she was 8 then i took her to vet because she was getting very skinny again and sadly to say she had bone cancer so i had to put her down i cried for days and days but she was the best dog i ever had. But any dog can turn on there owners you never know when or why but if you bring up your dog with love and patience it should be alright rotweillersm are very lovable dogs but a lot of peiople are scared of them because of the wrong way some other people bring them up to be mean of course if you beat a dog all the time and ignore it and dont socialize it with other people and other animals it will most probably become wicked

I'd get an event such as the one you mentioned on video and take it to the police. It is an offence to not be in control of your dog- the police will probably want an address if you have it, or can try and find them while exercising the dog an give a warning. Once its on record should anything happen the owner has no defence in saying they were unaware of the problem. The trouble is, the dog has only been aggressive to entire males IN THE PAST. There is no guarantee it won't up its aggression levels in the future. But the idea is the owner takes responsibility of their pet once the police have spoken to them, and muzzles the damn thing!

In theory, any dog can turn on its owner or another person, not just a rottie.

Large dogs like rotties require diligent obedience training, however, to ensure that you always have control over the dog.

I would suggest obedience class to teach you and your rottie voice AND hand signals for basic commands like sit, stay, lay down, and come. Hand signals work when you are 50 yards away, and worked well for my rottie.

I would also suggest you train your pup stringently about food and eating. NEVER feed him from the table. Fill his bowl and make him sit at it and wait for a command to eat (it's easy if you start as a pup and do this every time you feed - all my dogs do this). Removing any territorialism around food will do wonders in keeping a large dog from agression.

Don't give in to the stereotype that rotties are dangerous. They aren't any more dangerous than other dogs their size - and they are VERY intelligent! The key is good obedience training, as it is with any large dog.

I think that ANY breed can do that if provoked. Rotties are supposed to be one that can and do turn with little or no provocation.
A lot if their temperament depends on their lineage. If the parents were used for guarding then the dog will be more apt to become aggressive. Breeders (backyard) do not care about what type of dog they are breeding (temperament, health etc) and just want the money. The same thing can be said of Pitts, Dobies, Shepherds etc. Those are the ones that make the papers for everyone to read about. It is really a shame.

I think ANY dog has this potential if put into the right situation. Like a child teasing a dog, or being around young children unsupervised. Some dogs are just better in these situations and some don't tolerate them well. It really depends on the individual dog and after you've had your beloved pet for some time, you will learn what, if anything, will aggrivate and learn to avoid these situations.

i'm the owner of an alsatian (german shephard) - a dog with a similiar reputation as rottweilers. my dog is a total pet, but nevertheless, i would be very wary of him around children, strangers or new animals in my house. i treat my dog very well - he's one of the family and treated with a lot of love and attention. however, i do believe that its a nature versus nurture argument here and that no matter how they are raised, its in their instinct to be somewhat agressive and violent. so i would say that you can never really be too careful.

Any dog with a mean disposition is capable to turn on a person. If you want to know about your dog's chances, check the temperaments of his parents, grandparents etc etc. Your breeder should be able to help you.
If you don't know who bred your dog or if you can't trace his lineage, assume that there is a chance (even if it's slim) that your dog can hurt somebody under the proper circumstances, and take precautions wherever you and your dog are together.

ANY dog can turn. i knew a family that had a dog (lab mix) from puppyhood and 5 yrs later it latched onto their 12 yr old daughters face. it hadn't had any shots and the daughter had to undergo the rabies treatments, but when the dog was autopsied it was found to have a chemical imbalance. we used to live across from a doberman breeder and their stud that was about 7 turned on their youngest daughter. turns out cindy was getting ready to have her first menstrual cycle.
