I am staying in Newark International for five days and trying to find the cheapest route using city transportation. The shuttle form the airport is 15.00 one way I heard the PATH is cheaper but dont know how to find it or get to it. If any New Yorkers out there can help with some information. I dont want to spend 300.00 just to get to and from the hotel. Thanks.

You can get to Manhattan from Newark using the Airtrain, NJ Transit (or Amtrak), and the PATH. The Airtrain will take you from the terminal to the train station. If you are in a hotel, you might be able to get to the train station directly by other means. Ask at your hotel. From the Newark station you can take a NJ Transit or Amtrak (Amtrak may be more expensive) to Newark Penn Station. From there you can get the Path train to Manhattan. See the links below for a map of the Path system and the Airtrain official website that has a useful trip planner.

NJ Transit trains between NYC and the airport cost around $12, lat I knew. I read something recently that implied that taking the airport monorail to the train station now costs $5.50! If true, that's new since my last time going that way (in '02). Direct shuttle buses cost about $13, I think.

PATH trains can get you to NYC from downtown Newark's Penn Station, but don't go all the way to the airport. (I haven't used PATH since the early 90s; it was just $1 then - cheaper then the subways. dunno the current costs, but it must still be fairly cheap). NJ Transit buses connect the airport and downtown Newark for $1.25, according to Wikipedia, so combinig bus and PATH, you should be able to reach midtown for ano more than $3-4-ish each way.

The PATH train is probably cheapest. Look for the monorail that can take you to the station.

A taxi. It's nice, fast, a $30 or $40 flat fee, and they help you with your bags if you ask them to.
