It's when a Mexican illegal alien gets knocked-up and drops the kid in the United States so the kid will be an American citizen by birth. When they try to send her back she whines it's not fair to send her American baby back to a terrible place like Mexico so she should be allowed to stay here, collect WIC, AFCD, Food Stamps and Section 8 Housing for her little Americano.

When an ILLEGAL immigrant comes to the US and has their baby on US soil, that child is by Constitutional Amendment #14 a US citizen.

Because the baby is a legal citizen, and therefore currently cannot be deported, the mother gets anchored here in the US and is eligible for all kinds of domestic social programs like medicare etc.

What the US government needs to do is to modify the 14th Amendment such that this is not a legal way to access American rights.

Anchor baby is a pejorative[1][2] term used to refer to a child born in the United States to illegal immigrants or other non-citizens. The term was coined by nativists to refer to the child's role in facilitating "chain migration" under the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965. The baby becomes the "anchor" of the chain by which its family may receive benefits from social programs, and by which that family's members may themselves eventually become citizens of the United States. The term "anchor babies" is also used to refer to children born to women who are legally in the US on temporary visas (for example a visitor’s visa) when the child's birth is specifically intended to obtain citizenship under US law, however, this is more precisely described as birth tourism. Sometimes the term jackpot baby is used interchangeably with the term anchor baby, however this use is always derogatory.

'Anchor baby' is a slang reference to the 14th amendment of the Constitution of the United States. It's the premise under which people come to the US, have a child, and as the child's parents, gain green cards etc. More or less, the 14th amendment grants citizenship to any child born in the United States. There's qualifications with that, but that's the general concept.

The Supreme Court's got some midnight oil to burn, there....

Anchor babies are just illegal as the trespassers that have them here.
The ACLU has twisted the 14th amendment to help people other than Americans. American Civil Liberties Union is nothing but a joke and should be sent to mexico!
I am sure that some illegal will report me for abuse as always and Yahoo in their perfect wisdom will remove my answer so here is my source.
God Bless America! Nov 28th A day without an American!

Many women (mostly Mexican) will show up at the US border in labor. They are then taken to an American hospital to give birth. This baby is then a US citizen by birth and cannot be deported. Because the baby is dependent on their mother for everything, the mother is not deported either, even if she arrived by illegal means and snuck across the border. Thus, the baby keeps the mother "anchored" in the US making her a legal resident.

Just means a pregnant Mexican citizen from Mexico comes across the border and has a baby here giving a criminal a way to stay in the USA. Because they think that baby is an American citizen.

Read the US Constitution and you will see they are not citizens. Under the US Constitution the parents have to be under the control law of the USA which they are not. They are ILLEGALLY

HERE. We have been interpreting the law, not enforcing it.
90% don't have a clue what the US Constitution says. They just babble words because it sounds good to them.

FACT: if we continues to interpret law by what we want it to say we are going to end up in Anarchy.

It is a child born to ILLEGAL ALIENS. The Illegal Alien women come into the United States to have their babies. More often than not they will walk right up to a marked Border Patrol unit, knock on the window and demand to be taken to a U.S. hospital to give birth.

it's a baby born on US soil to illegal immigrants- hence it anchors them to the US... meaning if they have a baby that is a US citizen they think it helps them stay here legally

Its a derogatory term for illegal immigrants having there babies here in order to gain residency.....Anchor babies is not a very nice term because our govt. allows anyone born here to automatic citizenship.....So why do people make it derogatory? Did you know if a child, who is illegal, gets abused by his parents, will automatically receive residency? I work in the family courts and I know this for a fact.....I am glad to say we are still a society who is child oriented.....Children are defenseless and should be protected by our laws, regardless of their status...

It is a very derogatory term that some somewhat educated racists ha bestowed on an innocent child born of illegal parents who has been born on American soil making him an American citizen....They are America's future.....Our children.....They hopefully will fill the world and the USA with more love, kindness and understanding .... hopefully they will not hold a grudge against White America in regards to how they have treated their parents
