My cat is seven months and he continues to poop on the floor. The locations are close to his litter box. I started to remove his bathroom activities every other day - that didn't work, because he pooped on the floor again. I got the "updated" version the Litter Maid - it cleans the box 10 mins after the cat uses the bathroom. Still does not work, he pooped right outside the litter box this morning and he apparently just got out the litter box.

Please help

Here is some more detail...

We recently changed the brand of his litter and have used non-automatic litter boxes. We old litter box was automatic, but a bit small for him, so brought him a new one - "updated verision".

Hi there...has your kitten had this problem prior to the Littermaid box? It may be he's frighten of the box. Consider putting back the old litter box (or one just like it if you already threw it away) to see if the problem goes resolves itself. If it does it maybe the the answer. Cats generally will have accidents for several reasons, they don't like the litter box, the location of the box, the type of litter, there's new stress in the home, competition with other cats for the litter box or a medical condition.

I agree that he may not like the automated box. If this is what you have always used, try a regular litter box instead.

Most cats want to urinate in one place and defecate in another. Give him a second litter box.

A different brand or type of litter could do the trick.

If you add deodorizer to the litter, stop. The scent can be too strong for cats' sensitive noses.

There could be other solutions, but more info on the situation would be needed. Contact a behaviorist of these suggestions don't work.

It could be a few different things. It sopunds like you keep the litter box pretty clean, and a dirty litter box would have been my first guess. I would say that your cat may be having trouble with a parasite of some sort, making it hard for him to poop. Your best bet would be to take him to a vet, and I'm sure they will want a stool sample when yo0u go.

Good luck!

Could be scared of the box. Box could be too small. There could be something wrong with the cat.

Do you have more then one cat? It could be a territorial thing.

The litter could be too course, most cats like fine, sandy litter.
Also, do not use scented littler.

Try all of these things....cats are very picky.

Also, if you have more then one cat they say that you should have one more box for the number f cats you have. So if you have 3 cats then you should have 4 boxes!......its crazy, i know....but cats are picky.

Also, when you wash the cat box, do not use scented or harsh chemicals.

It maybe that hes scared of the noise the litter box makes. many cats don'tlike the automatic ones. Try a litter box that is covered.

Could he be sick? A lot of times when cats start going to the bathroom outside of their litterbox, it means they're not feeling well. I'd take him for a check up if you haven't done so recently and tell your vet about the problem. Good luck!

it could be intestinal parasites or more likely just behavioral. Any small change in a cat's environment can cause changes in the cat's behavior. I would take your cat and sample of stool to your vet for a physical exam and advice
