In short, yes. But it also enslaves people to irrationality and denial.

One thing I have learned about most religious people is that, facts, reality, commonsense, rational thinking, and the like, have no place in their lives. You can not reason with them - it's the great mystery of human behavior.

Depressing for sure. I'm not really sure if it is unproductive because most "followers" must have too much time on their hands to start with, and the people running the religions certainly are profiting.

In general I think religions do reduce the total productivity of society. The Soviets had the right idea banning the silly crap.

Depends what you're trying to produce. I'm sure the people profiting from the widespread fear and ignorance of religion consider it very productive.
Religion itself isn't that depressing. It's just depressing that people can't keep it to themselves.

Well I'm not religious because I believe in God. I'm a Christian but I don't believe in church.I don't believe in organized religion but I am very spiritual.
So I don't know where I stand in your classification of "non-believers" but I feel I'm productive and not severely depressed.

TO NON BELIEVERS RELIGION IS NOT ONLY ANTI PRODUCTIVE BUT ALSO CHEATING ENTERPRISE FROM WHICH ONE CAN MAKE EASY NAME,FAME AND MONEY.
FOR SPIRITUALITY , THE NON BELIEVERS FEEL WASTAGE OF TIME TOWARDS EFFORTS PUT IN BY SPIRITUALISTS. ACTUALLY NEGATIVITY B RINGS IN THEM UNNATURAL STATE OF MIND AND HEART WHICH IS CALLED DEPRESSION IN COMMON WAY AS WE GATHER AND FEEL AROUND THESE NON BELIEVERS.THEY REMAIN ALWAYS
RESTLESS AND ARE OF SUSPICIOUS TREND WHICH FOR THEM IS THEIR WISDOM. THIS PHOBIA USHERING FROM THEIR SUPERIORITY COMPLEX GATHERS NEGATIVITY RESULTING ULTIMATELY TO DEPRESSION.

Yes they attempt to force feed their views on the unknown, bug the hell out of me knocking on my door, they allow people to starve in the shadow of multi million dollar churches, are after our money, kill in the name of their God, and then bless us all. I figure hell if it exists must have a much better class of people

Since we have taken prayer, God, the Bible and the 10 commandments out of the schools we have seen a huge raise in drug use, fights, mass killings and murder, teen pregnancy, loss of respect for authority, lying, cheating , stealing. I could go on but I think you get the idea.

See how anti-productive we and our children have become because of the loss of God in our nation.

No.Only sad that so many people are so narrow minded that they accept 2000 year old stories without question

If you don't believe, why would you find it depressing? The only thing that depresses me is that not everyone has come to know and love God.
