i guess i should have put a lot more detail into my question but was trying not to make it long...first i am not dissing the law officers i have great respect for most of them... second my comment about them not driving as well.. i understand that they have had lots of training in driving fast but without sirens that doest help when someone pulls out in front of you and you are doing 100 miles an hr... and third the ones i am talking about were ones that i know for a fact were not going on a run because they were pulled over on the side of the road... and as for them being allowed to go that fast with no sirens on i didnt realize that they were allowed to do that because. where i live there was a case where the cop got charged because he was on a run and didnt have his lights on and he hit a car and killed the guy.... from now on i will make my questions more clear srry..

I completely agree.. and have wondered that myself.. I had a bad year last year with getting speeding tickets.. I went from having a perfect driving record to getting 3 speeding tickets.. two for going under 10 mph over the speed limit.. one was for 6 mph over and one was for 8 mph and one I wasn't even speeding and claimed I was going 15 over the speed limit.. I took that one to court and of course lost, because traffic court apparently is a joke.. anyways.. so I see all these cops speeding down the road, I now go the speed limit or under.. no more 5 over and they cruise past me.. I think they actually get aggravated that I'm going the speed limit when they are behind me.. alot of the cops I see speeding are ones that live in a different county (my county), then where they work, so you know they aren't on a call, they are just going to work.. what really upset me one day was this motorcycle cop was speeding past everyone, passing people left and right, it looked like he was in an emergency situation, only further down the road for him to pull off on the side of the interstate and whip out a radar gun.. I was so aggravated I wrote the city police dept and of course got the run around.. about police officers being responsible for their own speed.. blah blah... so yeah I don't think it's fair.. I think they need to obey the laws just like everyone else.

Haha! 8/10 times we the officers do have much more training and knowledge operating a 2000lb+ vehicle at high speeds. To answer your question you really dont know what that officer is responding to if anything at all. I will say this as Im just as guilty. I have at times been flying, but really going nowhere. Have you ever driven behind an officer on the highway that was doing the speed limit? Its ANNOYING as hell because no one wants to pass the officer for fear of getting a ticket.
Im sorry, an officers "ON DUTY" time is more valuable than yours. YOU are not going to respond to someone stabbing another person, YOU are not going to try and apprehend that bank robber, YOU are not going to put yourself in harms way to defend another unless its a relative. YOU will look at it on the news and make your decisions from the safe confines of your home.

I'm "srry" too.... but they ARE better drivers then you are, When I joined the reserves the minimum was 40 hours behind the wheel in defensive, evasive and high speed pursuit driving... Another shocking fact for you... cops DO get tickets for speeding.. the Highway Patrol in my state LOVES to give them to other cops. My suggestion to you would be to see if you can do a ride- along with the P.D. or Sheriff's department where you live... It would be a real eye opener and who knows.. you might have fun wile you learn a few things.

Check your state's laws. Most states allow law enforcement to exceed speed limits when responding to a duty related matter, but do not require the use of emergency lights and/or siren. Some state's laws say that any law enforcement officer on duty can exceed the speed limits.
Yes they are better drivers. They spend any where from days to a week or more doing high speed vehicle operations. Some states require annual recertification.
As far as your argument about your time being just as valuable as theirs which makes it unfair.......grow up.

If they're responding to a call with a "silent alarm" that means they've been dispatched to go without lights and sirens. And they can zing as fast as the situation and road conditions calls for.
You on the other hand, and isn't it ALWAYS this other hand that gets into trouble, have no excuse for speeding. You're not answering an emergency dispatch about a criminal.
However, if you do have an emergency and you're speeding, they'll usually accommodate the situation. They'll take you where you need to be or call an ambulance for you.
And just that you know, they DO drive better and CAN handle their cars better than you can handle yours. They have hours and hours of defensive driving classes they have to go through, so they know what they're doing behind the wheel of a vehicle!

First of all, The Police Officer behind the wheel IS a better driver than you. He or She has had many hours of training in high speed situations. That is why they generally get a discount on their car insurance. Secondly, if you were in need of the Police to respond to you would rather they get there as fast as possible or observe all the traffic laws....Thirdly, your time IS NOT as valuable as theirs considering that they may be responding to a life and death situation. Finally, there are many situations where lights and sirens are not used. Why warn a Burguler that you are coming.....Bottom line, You drive safe and let the Police do their job.

First of all, police officers probably DO drive better because of better training and more practice.
This doesn't change the fact that the speed limits are way too low in th USA, and the police take things waaaayyyyy too seriously.
What erks me more are that trucks usually can get away with driving faster than cars. In my opinion the speed limit for trucks shoud be 15 mph slower than passenger vehicles, and this should be enforced more strictly.

They give speeding tickets because thats the job. You should be more concerned about the fact that they risk their lives for you every single day than crying because you can't drive as fast.

alot of them are undercover and dont want to put on thier alarms becasue it will let the other people know that they are there.
Also depending on how bad their call is, they may not be allowed to use thier lights but need to get thier quickly
