In our politically correct age, it would be hard to pick an international language without offending anyone UNLESS....do you think we could go with Klingon?

I think Latin is a good idea.
It is still spoken and kept up to date by the Vatican, but no-one could feel threatened by that, and since there would still be a lot of national languages it would be easier for everybody with a knowledge of Latin to learn any of them.
I know it is kind of Eurocentric, but I still like the idea.

ESPERANTO is the easiest option. Linguists reckon it to be up to eight times easier to learn than any natural language.
Brethren, let me witness ;-)
I am hopeless at learning to speak languages. I have experience of learning and using about 10 languages but as soon as stop using them I forget them as quickly. I learned Esperanto years ago and never use it unless I come across someone or something by accident. It never fails to come out like I'd been using it daily. There are sound reasons for this linked to our understanding of universal grammar etc etc.
Kids can learn it and email and chat to friends anywhere on the globe using it. Give it a few weeks of study and you'll have enough to get going with, then you can spend the rest of your life perfecting it just like any other language.

English is already the international language of air traffic control and trade through stock exchange (I think the stock exchange is true) It has also replaced German as the language that scientific papers are drafted in.
Looks to me like there already is an international language that we all learn at school.

If there was such a thing in existence, then an international sign language would be good!. If it was the same in every country, communication would be a lot easier.

This is exactly the reason that Dr. Zamenhof created Esperanto. He intended it to be a neutral international language, easy to learn, expressive. If everyone would learn it as a 2nd language, nobody would have to learn more than two.

In the UK it would have to be Polish, we're gonna need it soon - there are so many Poles here now! I'm already one step ahead though and already speak it fluently :)

no I don't think there should be. everyone has their own culture and if we were to start a universal language then people would loose a lot of their own culture. but if i had to pick one it should be a romance language like Italian or French (no I don't know either but they are beautiful)
