Somone sitting next to me sneezed once and I said 'bless you'. A minute or so later the person sneezed again. I did not know whether to say 'bless you' once more or to keep quiet since the previous 'bless you' was sufficient.
Please clarify what I should have done.

Has anyone ever ignored you when you said 'bless you'/'gesundheit' after they sneezed?

I would say, 'Bless you' again if they sneezed three or four times. However, there is a particular problem with people who have hay fever or allergies. In these instances, I say bless you the first time and then the second time I say, 'That one is to cover you for the one you just had and all future ones for the next 24 hours'.

how about, 'take that pepper away from your nose you're starting to annoy me with that sneezing!"

Seriously - I've got allergies and I appreciate people saying bless you - it's nice of them. A couple of times is polite and usual I would say but if I sneeze more than twice, I tell people "it's okay they don't need to say bless you any more"

You will get bored saying 'bless you' every couple of minutes!

I know what you mean though, my BF is allergic to the cat and sneezes quite a lot!

I say bless you again.

I've been with people who have sneezed repeatedly - like five or six times. After the third one, I say "bless you" and then grin and say - "okay, that's enough blessings for you for today."

It was believed that if a person sneezed three times, it was a bad omen. That's why
people say "bless you"! Wouldn't hurt to say it again, just to be nice.

Well I always bless a second time and even a third time if need be but I don't think there is a rule on it I think it is just to your preferance

Run screaming shouting "the plague! the plague!". No seriously just say "bless you again". If they do it a third time ask them if they'd like a tissue because if you are such a follower of etiquette you would never travel without your tissues.

I usually just say 'bless you again' and if you sneeze for a third time, I just say 'and again'
