My hubby and I knew each other since we were little kids. In high school, he got me a promise ring (I was in 12th grade, he was in 11th) - it's a heart with a diamond in the middle, with little diamons on the side. Nothing too fancy or expensive, it was like $99, but I loved it! I still wear it to this day on my right ring finger. Of course, now, we've been married for 4.5 years and I have a beautiful wedding and engagement ring on my left ring finger :)

ps that mystic person doesn't know what he's talking about! lol we were both virgins and waited until marriage to have sex - having a promise ring doesn't make people have premarital sex, good lordy!

Promise Ring Meaning

2016-10-02 06:48:11 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

A promise ring is a symbol of a promise between two people. My boyfriend gave me a promise ring when we were 19. We had been together since we were 17 and we can not provide for each other yet so our parents wouldn't want us to get engaged. So we made a promise to each other that we would get married when after we graduate from college. We will be graduating soon and we talk about marriage so it is almost time for the engagement ring.
A promise ring can be any type of ring.
If he was to give me a promise ring now, I would probably be think "okay, when will we get engaged". Because I think promise rings are given when an engagement is far off because if you have enough money, you love the person (most important), and you are mature, why not propose.

Ok, let my first start by telling you that the majority of people giving you answers on here never had a promise ring and don't truly understand its meaning because of this. Many people feel it is illogical. I believe they are completely wrong. A promise ring is a symbol of a deep commitment between 2 people. This commitment is more than simply boyfriend and girlfriend, but not quite to the point of engagement or marriage. Don't confuse a promise ring with a purity ring, which is a promise to keep yor virginity until marriage. It is called a promise ring because it is a promise of monogamy in a serious relationship. I feel that many people skip his step in the life of a relationship because they see it as wate of time. I also believe that people who take the time to have a promise ring allow their relationships (and sometimes themselves) to mature before jumping right into engagement and marriage. I often woder if the lack of a promise ring in many relationships, meaning the lack of time to mature and grow together in a monogamous and serious relationship, has lead to the high divorce rate. I think a promise ring is an important and often over-looked phase in any relationship. My now husband gave me a promise ring form my 24th birthday, at that point we had been toether for almost 5 years. He wasn't ready to get married at that time, but knew we were meant to be together. He gave me a gorgeous aquamarine (his birthstone) ring with tiny diamond side stones set in 14 karat gold. It's a beautful ring that I still sometimes wear. He proposed last summer, when we were both 28. I now have my dream engagement ring and the husband of my dreams.

Typically promise rings are like opals , sapphires or pearls. I don't feel they are necessary to make that commitment offical or anything. I always thought that I wanted one and it would of been nice but I still got married with out one. Usually it isn't a bad thing to get a promise ring it is a sign that a man wants to spend his life with you and is making that commitment but he isn't ready for marriage yet. It is completly fine to get a promise ring it is a big step for a guy to do that.

To me I think that a promise ring means that the person giving it will be loyal and respect full of you and want to marry you when the both of you are ready. I think that a promise ring should be somewhat simple and plan so when you get engaged or married you can have something a bit better.

I think they are useless, if the two know they will eventually marry at some point, there's not need to get a promise ring. If a man wants to buy a ring, he should buy her a ring, just because.

A promise ring is where you have promised to marry him. You typically get this when you are not getting married for some time. For example: if you are in your freshman year of college and are not getting married until after you graduated you might get a promise ring he is saying that he loves you and wants to marry you but you are waiting until you are ready. This says you are already taken! I was givin my promise ring after 6 weeks and we got engaged 2 years later.

A promise ring is typically a smaller ring. There are all different kinds but the most that I see have hearts with small diamonds. Here are some examples of promise rings! Hope this helps you out.

A promise ring means : I'm devoted to you and you mean a lot to me. I promise to be your boyfriend for a long time"

This is something that teenagers invented so they can play gown up games.

That indicates that both of you are very young and in love, but do not have the financial means to get married yet. This is very sweet and he thinks you are the world to him, but don;t hold your breath for marriage honey... there will be a lot of waiting.

Birth stones are normally the stone of choice.

Congrats and good luck
