All the really big stars were out today. President Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. G.W. Bush also showed up. I like to give credit when it's due. Him and Clinton showed up and talked before a crowd of 5000 blacks. They were all there to calibrate the opening of
$100 million "King Memorial" in Washington. The first Memorial dedicated to a black man.
I think it's about time. I agree with Bush's words. "Today we see only these open acres, yet we know when the work is done, the King Memorial will be a fitting tribute, powerful and hopeful and poetic, like the man it honors. As we break ground we remember the obstacles that Dr. King overcame and the courage that transformed American history."
Who writes this stuff. That is very good. Well read also by Bush.
Now I ask you this. Why did it take so long for this man to be honored in Washington?. The people have honored Dr. Kings memory for many, many years now.
I also ask you this. If Dr. King were alive today. What would he say to all Americans about the occupation of Iraq? Would he be silent and not call it what it is a occupation? Would he call it "the war on terror"? I don't think he would. Dr. King had one thing most Americans lack, that one thing is real courage to speak out against what they know deep down inside themselves is wrong in America.
Dr. King was real. He was part of this world not a make believe world of fantasy. Dr. King took up real issues and faced them.
In this past election Democrats all over this great country followed Dr. Kings example. Exit polls indicated that the number one issue for voters was Iraq. Many have said the "majority" of the people in this country think that America is headed in the wrong direction. Democrats took the House and the Senate. Now the question is. Do Democrats have the courage to do what voters put them in office to do.
They must speak out against the occupation of Iraq. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Senator John Murtha, Senator John Kerry, Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obamba. Governor Ted Strickland in Ohio and Senator Sherrod Brown in Ohio. Are you up to the task.? Will you follow the example of Dr. King's courage.?
We Democrats now have been called every name in the book. Some Democrats bring fear to the hearts of every Republican. We have earned capital in this election now we should spend it.
Democrats should fire the first shot for change. We give Bush confirmation of Robert Gates as the new Defense Secretary and Bush and Republicans give us a date certain for the end of the occupation of Iraq. Yes, this stand will take courage, Yes, there will be more name calling. Yes, the risk of hurting the 2008 Presidential race is there, all real concerns. The question is. Will we follow the example of Dr. Kings courage? Change will not come if we are not willing to spend the capital we earned.

Sue, well said, The issue was not CFR. You missed one small detail. Congress has never declared war on Iraq or on Terrorist. That is fact and no one can change fact. Congress approved the use of force to remove Saddam but they did not approve occupation. On that point you are just wrong.

the days whilst liberals had a reason became into additionally the time whilst they have been correct. Like affirmative action and perplexing paintings unions, liberals are actually not any further needed in society. all the guidelines that needed changing have been accomplished some time past... yet liberalism won't bypass away. The hypocrisy of civil rights is a suited occasion of liberals being the difficulty- Jackson and Sharpton are opportunists who do the different of Dr king's message. Liberalism ran out of a reason and have been given hi-jacked by making use of socialism and communism; maximum are in denial as they goose-step each and every time Michael Moore or another fake chief, pushes their button.

Do you really expect change in foreign affairs if a democrat wins the white house?
No one gets to run for president in this country unless approved by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and are willing to do their bidding. Bill and Hillary are both members of CFR, as is Colin Powell, Condy Rice, Rumsfield, Bush Sr., Reagan (was), Dick Cheney, Al Gore, Ted Kennedy, and the list goes on with many names you are probably familiar with.
The fact is that the CFR decides the foreign affairs issues and anyone who won't play their game does not get into a presidential administration. We are led to believe that we actually have a choice in presidents, when in fact we have a choice of two candidates who will do the same thing. Why do you think that after all the slanderous words, people like Bill Clinton and Bush Sr. hang out together now! Most of the politicking we see at the national level is an act.
The difference in the parties is on domestic issues, especially moral issues. They hype the foreign issues and pretend. The fac is that almost every member of Congress.... Senator Clinton included .... voted in agreement to go into Iraq. They had access to intelligence information too! If Bush made a mistake in that... they all did and were willing accomplices! But now there were the midterm elections to deal with. So the dems put on a good show, forgetting the past and how all this started.... 'cause it was years ago now..... and make it sound like Bush did this all on his own.
The only honest dem in this is Pelosi, who is a genuine pacifist and voted against the war and everything involved in it. I can't stand the woman personally, but I have to give her credit for standing against the tide for something she believes in. Unfortunately, she is likely to be killed, and not by Republicans.... but by the people who really run the country. She is just a force they have used to play the American people and dupe them into thinking there really are two sides to this issue. But there is no way they really want her to gain too much power.... so.... we'll see.
Domestic issues are indirectly affected by the CFR, via the foreign relations issues. For example, when America pushed Israel to pull out of Gaza and the West Bank, we put up in excess of 10 BILLION dollars to pay for the pullout. We pushed them, of course, at the bidding of the CFR. Who do you think pays the money for that? WE DO! And when it is used for something like that, or any other foreign handout (CFR again), it takes money away from our domestic budget and needs of the American people at home.
So in the end.... you and I don't choose anything. It's put in front of us to pick one of their two candidates. Not much different than in Russia where everyone under Communism had a right, even an obligation to vote..... for the one candidate on the ballot!
God Bless America..... Land of the duped who think they are free.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Dr King was a Christan 1st.
He would be yelling about the Muslim killing blacks and Christians in Africa.
Every day, the 2.5 million people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape, while the few lucky enough to remain in their homes risk displacement, torture and murder. Dr King would be yelling, we call on you to do the following:
Strengthen the understaffed and overwhelmed African Union peackeeping force already in Darfur.
Push for the deployment of a strong UN peacekeeping force.
Increase humanitarian aid and ensure access for aid delivery.
Establish a no-fly zone.

Racism is turning into classism in this country....
In most places, it's no longer cool to be racist, antisemetic or homophobic.... in fact, most people look down on this behavior now.
But the financial classes are brooding for war.
At risk of sounding communist, I think we need to even things out and restore the middle class.
I support capitalism but I try to support small businesses and local people wherever possible.
Dr. Martin Luther King might have had an interesting perspective on this. He was very kind to whites in the face of hatred. He would probably approach the class wars with the same level of respectability.

I am a white man, over 50 yr old. I wish I was 1% of the man Dr. King was. I remember Dr. Kings marches and remember thinking, What a courageous man. And I remember the day he was murdered. I knew the world had changed and knew it was not for the better. I truly believe, had Dr. King had not been murdered, he would have been the first black president. And I think the world would have been better.

I salute the memorial to Dr. King. A more deserved man there isn't. And it came much faster then the memorial to the WWII vets.
I'm not sure you have the authority to speak for Dr. King.
