It doesn't have to be some big event - do it when she's least expecting it, like suggest going for a walk, or do it while you're cooking or even Christmas shopping, just suddenly get down on one knee outside a shop and propose there!

You should think off thing that are special to you too, where special places are to you both, things she loves....
I think waking here on Xmas morning and you have made her breakfast in bed covering the room in heart balloons and red rose petals all over the fall and in some champagne have her ring in the champagne or have the ring tied to one of the balloons??
But you have to do it a way that will be special to you both...

My husband proposed to me on my birthday last year and he made very simple but special. While we were dating we always went to the park right by my house to just me stupid and feed the ducks or just take a walk. Try thinking of something that would mean alot wether it was some where that you go alot or something that you do alot. Pick something that will have special meaning to her and you. So he took me out to eat and actually had a huge fake present in th back seat to throw me off then we went to the park and he proposed! I wish you the best adn just foolow your heart. I hope she says yes!

But, as you asked. Buy a nice ring (duh) and put it in a little box. In a slightly bigger box, in a slightly bigger box, and so on until the box is pretty big. Put newspaper or something between boxes so it doesn't make too much noise if she shakes it.
Wrap the massive box in christmas paper, and watch as she makes her way through the boxes, getting more and more disappointed as she gets to the smaller ones, then watch her eyes light up when she realises what you've done.
Its what I think I'll do, when the time comes.

Put the ring in a cracker?
Drop it into the champagne glass that you bring her on Christmas morning complete with smoked salmon breakfast?
Book tickets to a panto - get one of the 'stars' of the panto to ask her from the stage? Could be cute and chessy - along the lines of 'Well cinderella got her prince charming - but 'girlfriend' would you accept 'you' to be your prince carming and live happily ever after with him?'

Put the ring in a little box inside a giant box. Attatch a helium balloon to the little box and put them both in the big box so that when she opens the big one, the balloon floats out with the ring behind it. Then ask her to marry you. For gods sake dont give it to her outside tho. I did that for my girl once (tho admittedly not an engagement ring) And she loved it

In my family we always opened the gifts in the Stocking on Christmas Eve. You can put the ring in a stocking and let her find it with other small stocking stuffer's.

Don't do it on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning, wait until Christmas day night, she will not expect it. My fiance did that to me last Christmas, and boy, he really got me!!

Make a short movie expressing your love to her and the whole proposal burn it onto DVD. Then make her think that you are going to be sitting down to watch the queens speech with a nice glass of bubbly hit play on the DVD and watch her smile. Drop the ring in her drink. If she says no make sure she chokes on it.
