My friend is Mormon, or at least his parents are and he seems pretty cool, but I'm not quite so sure about morons in general? What's the significance to being a Mormon and can anybody join the church?

Mormons are not cool in general, you can't join their church until they brainwash you against Christianity. I was raised in it, my family has been Mormon since 1853 with Brigham Young. It is a cult - stay away.

Many, many years ago in a garden far, far away, there lived a man named Adam and his wife, Eve. They were both very happy and loved each other very much.

But then one day, an evil snake told them that they could become better, stronger, and wiser people if they simply set their minds to doing so. They could even become like God. They listened to the snake and chose fruit from the wrong tree--a decision that caused a separation between them and God. This is the religion of the Mormons.

If we truly can perfect ourselves, then the last thing we need is a savior. After all, who wants to be the servant if they can be the master? That's what Satan suggested to Adam and Eve, and that is the religion of the Mormons.

You cannot get rid of your issues by yourself. You cannot save yourself. You are not and cannot be a good person by yourself. You do not have your life under control. You are not in charge of your fate. You...you...you...are not the final answer but MORMONS argue this reality.

Only one thing will truly make you a better person--and consequently "enlighten" you, as people like to talk about--and it's called "intimacy with God."
Mormons do not have this intimacy. Their human self-exalted god (the father of Satan) is on some far away planet near Kolob having endless poylgamous sex.

Mormons are not Christians, they do not worship Jesus Christ as God, they do not pray to Him, they do not have a personal relationship with Him. They have a false god, and a false Jesus who are related to Satan.

First thing you should consider when reading these negative answers:
Are any of these people Mormon?
Have they ever been to an LDS meeting or church?
Have they read the Book of Mormon?

I am a proud LDS member. We are regular people who love the Lord, try to follow his commandments and live the best life we can. I would say the significance is we have the fulness of the gospel, the blessings of the everlasting Priesthood, the sealing power of God to bind families together forever, the full and correct truths restored to the earth that were lost after Jesus was crucified and his apostles died.
Yes, anyone can become a member, but you are supposed to live by certain standards...of course none of us is perfect so thank heaven for repentance!
I suggest you attend a meeting with your friend on a Sunday. You will see we are trying to be good people and love the Lord and try to live by his teachings. Talk to some missionaries also, they can answer all of your questions. Pray to your Heavenly Father for guidance, he will help you if you ask.

Mormonism is a cult that was founded by the false prophet Joseph Smith. To get in you have to wear magical underwear and undergo a temple ritual involving secret handshakes (which you must learn because apparently you have to give God the secret handshake before he lets you in heaven), and oaths that you will have your tongue pulled out by the roots (among other things) if you disclose any of the information about the rituals. Since that's pretty disturbing to new recruits now adays, they don't actually tell you that that's what that means when you are making the little handsignals during the ritual.
They also teach that man gets to be a god if he's a good enough mormon.
Ask them about THAT, then run far far away from them and encourage your friend to do the same.

Here's some very good information from a man that has taken part in the mormon rituals and done a lot of research on mormonism:

You can always check out www.lds.org to start. Anyone can join the Church - you have to be at least 8 years old to be baptized, though. It helps to study with the missionaries first. Plan on a minimum of 2 weeks, and don't be afraid to study even longer, even like 6 months to a year. You have attracted a lot of anti-Mormon sentiments by asking this question on this site, which just means that it's a good idea to ask real Mormons what it is all about. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the same organization that existed in the early Church of Jesus Christ including 12 Apostles who have personal witnesses of Jesus Christ. The Church uses both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, because we believe both books show how Jesus Christ is the Savior of mankind, and He was resurrected and continues to talk to a live prophet today. We also use both the Bible and the Book of Mormon because there were prophets both in the Old World and the New World. It's like if you have relatives in another country, you might not be able to sit down and read the exact same book together at the same time, but God would want all of His children to know about the mission of Jesus Christ. If you want to know more about what we believe God is like, look around you at fathers who are devoted to their families. We are children of God and made in His image. We have immense worth and value to Heavenly Father and have a noble destiny. We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and that there is much work to do to get the world ready for that event. We believe that the Priesthood of God, or the same authority and power that Jesus Christ had, is on the earth today and can be administered by those who are worthy. We believe that God has a plan for all of His children, including those who have lived in other centuries and other countries and who may not have heard the full Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that there is a reason and purpose for all of us being here on this earth, that we lived with God before we came here, and that the Atonement of Jesus Christ has made it possible for us to return to God's presence after we die. There may be many stories and ideas out there about our Church's history, but I promise you there are answers to every question if you are willing to spend the time to keep studying. Ask your friend more as the questions come, and if necessary he can ask others to help out with the answers. Have a happy day.

I'm mormon and anyone can join the church. First you get an interview with a bishop or branch president, then you repent of your sins, then you are baptized and confirmed. Go to church there one Sunday and at least try it. A lot of people think it's a cult and it's weird and everything, but don't listen to them. If you want to know more, just go to lds.org.

You're not so sure about 'who' in general? :)

Mormons would tell you that they are a Christian religion, but they are very much at odds with mainstream Christianity in their beliefs. They believe that God was once a man who lived on another planet, was promoted to Godhood by another God... and they believe that Mormon men can become Gods in time.

They believe that Christ was a created being, that the Garden of Eden is in Missouri and that every man and woman in the church should wear special undergarments (for spiritual protection) except when bathing.

The Mormon Church is very secretive about their finances and about their rituals, most of which are revamped rituals that the masons used.

There's a great deal more you should know about Mormonism and I would suggest that you do a thorough study on the net. Go to the Mormon sites, but also go to some of the other sites that ex-mormons have created to tell their story of the Mormon church. And take a very careful look at Mormon history.

Mormon doctrine is complete heresy (and did you mean to call them morons or was that a Freudian slip?). Whole books have been written on the subject. So with this medium I will cut to the chase. They deny the uniqueness of God. They claim He (God the Father) was once an ordinary man and also that ordinary man can one day be a god just like Him and rule his own universe. They teach we have all always existed in a spirit form taking away some of the uniqueness of Christ (who they teach is a literal brother of Satan). They teach that the shed blood of Christ is not sufficient to cleanse us of all our sins but that we must first do all that we can in good works, and then His blood will kick in and do the rest. Damnable heresy!

I had a chum who grew to become into Mormon and a yet another pal grew to become into Pentecostal like me. The Mormons do have confidence interior the present of tongues while my Pentecostal heard this she invited the Mormon pal to her church. The Mormon did no longer like the Pentecostal church. Then my Pentecostal pal went to the Mormon church and he or she grew to become into no longer inspired. They remained acquaintances I respected the Mormon pal as she grew to become into between the nicest and kindest individual I knew. None people ever stated our faiths to one yet another after that. I lived in a neighboring city and had my very own church so i did no longer bypass to the two od their church homes.

Ugh...look. I'm not a Mormon, but I'm not prejudice against them either or make smart remarks towards their beliefs.

Try this website. It give a lot of information.

Oh, btw...while they don't consider themselves a part of Christianity, they do consider themselves Christians.

Mormons are just like everyone else. Some are jerks, and some are cool. I don't believe the religion has sound doctrine, but that is only my personal opinion. If you're curious about joining, talk to your friend. I imagine he would know more about it.
