that answer is subjective and depends on the ecosystem in question, is some cases there is a simple link between plants, a single herbivore and then a single predator, but most systems are more complex than that, you have rodents, ungulates, other herbivores, being eaten by multiple predators, and then if you include omnivores such as bears, who will east everything from plants, bugs, mice up to elk and moose, so there is no one simple answer
