I have a really easy and cool project for you. My son was in 4th last year and this is what he did. He earned an A+ on it. It is called Bouncing Eggs In Science. You will need to take pictures of the progress. The instructions say that if you soak a raw egg in vinegar for 2 to 3 days, when you take it out of the vinegar, it will "bounce". So my son took 2 raw eggs, and put them in two glass see-through coffee cups of vinegar (we use white vinegar). My son had to decide if it would take the eggs soaking for 2 days or 3 days before they would be able to bounce. He said he thought it would take 3 days of soaking for the egg to be able to bounce. So I took pictures (I did not want him using my new digital camera, so I took the pics for him !!) on Day 1 of both eggs and he wrote down what the vinegar and eggs looked like. On Day 2, he wrote down the changes that were made in the vinegar and the eggs and again I took pictures of the changes. On the beginning of Day 3 (the eggs had soaked for two full days) he took one of the eggs out of the vinegar. I took a picture of him holding the egg about 8 inches on the countertop and as he released (easily, don't throw) the egg, I rapidly took a couple more pics of it hitting the counter (you could actually see the width of the egg compact as it hit the counter). He dropped the egg around 5 or 6 times before it finally broke. I took a picture of that. He then wrote down his findings. Then on the beginning of day 4. He took the other egg and we did the same thing. He was only able to drop that egg about 3 to 4 times before it broke. He then wrote down his findings. I then helped him type it up on papers and put it on his tri-fold. It is a really easy project to do and like I said, he made an A+ on it. Good Luck.

Seismography is cool - you explain the science, then it's easy to find a book to help your child build an easy seismometer. Google science fair projects, they are usually a big help. Also try out "How Stuff Works" site.

When I was in the 4th grade I got access to a local College with a bug lab.
I was able to take home real samples (they were dead on pins) and just researched small detail on each.
Its name, where it is from.
