there is a small risk of congenital tb - the bacteria infects the placenta and then reches the fetal liver thru the umbilical cord, presnts with liver problems. The risk, however is very small.

The larger question is how it will effect the mother's health. It is unlikely the infection itself will pass to the child, but the mother will face serious health risks without treatment. This should be discussed thoroughly with your OB/GYN and the physician treating your family for TB.

Unless the TB affects the mother's uterus, it cannot be transmitted to the fetus.TB in the mother must be treated, so that it does not affect the baby after birth.
