I know they are all branches but what makes them so different

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said that amongst his Ummah (Community of Followers), there will be 73 sects (branches of religion) and only 1 will be the correct one.

So, having that cleared up...
Sh'ia or Shi'ites believe that Hazrat Ali (may allah be pleased with him) should have been the last prophet and not Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Sunnis follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah

Sufis are mysticals who are deeply religious and close to nature

Ahmadis (i'm not sure if they are considered muslims...but most likely not)...because they believe that there will be another prophet who will come after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and anyone who believes so is not considered a Muslim.

Inshallah, i hope i cleared that up!

Seek the truth, (God Wiling), you will find it!

Abubakar , Osman, and Omar were the rulers and were influence people right from the beginning even before Islam was formed and spread. they accepted Islam because they were afraid of losing power in Muslim world. so they joined Prophet Mohamed [pbuh]
so as they can get away with their power and influence.

As the Muslim world see that all the hadith of Prophet Mohamed[pbuh] is highly respected so i think when he himself proclaimed Ali to be his successor i am sure Muslim world should have accepted whole heatedly without any opposition.

but after the sad demise of the Prophet Mohamed all these three who proclaimed to be most near to Prophet Mohamed were the first people from the lot to go against Prophet Mohamed [pbuh] against the declaration [which was made publicly ] that Ali was the true successor.

so those people who believe in Ali are shias.

there have been no Shia on the time of the prophet peace be upon him. The prophet and his companions have been all Muslims Ahl Sunnah Wal Jamaah. Shiism and all different sects have been made some years after the dying of the prophet peace be upon him. maximum human beings of Muslims now are following the coaching of the prophet peace be upon him (majority are sunnis). all the different sects are minorities such as shia. Shia continually talk approximately Ali(r.a)/Hussein(r.a) and infrequently say Allah(s.w.t)/Mohamed(s.a.w), and wager what? the names Ali and Hussein are actually not even reported in the Quran. Islam is organic Monotheism. Muslims (Sunnis) ask for each concern directly to God merely with out making anybody middleman. Calling out, invoking, crying out, making duaa to are all MANIFESTATIONS of worship that could desire to easily be directed in the direction of Allah. despite the fact that Shia call (invoke) besides Allah, that's polytheism. They ask Ali or Hussein for help extremely than asking Allah. Sunni = monotheism = Islam Shiism = polytheism = not Islam The Prophet (Peace be upon him) reported, 'My Ummah gets divided into seventy 3 sects one in all which would be in Paradise and seventy two would be in the fire.” It became into reported, O Messenger of Allaah, who're they? He reported, “Al-Jamaa’ah.”' additionally in one Hadith he reported, 'they're those people who will persist with this course which I and my Sahaba persist with right this moment.' .... merely Ahlul Sunnah Wal Jamaah (aka Sunnis) are following the genuine course.

good question. sunni muslim ie. like saddam hussein. shi'a and shi'ite same things i would have said, majority of muslims in iraq. i haven't heard about the others. this may show me as ignorant but i don't believe it is essential that we need to know. people in britain hear the names of and could probably recall the names of more iraqi cities in the news than they do cities in most european countries with which we are co-members in an economic union. in an ideal world we would all be well informed about every major faith but in the real world we make do with enough to get by. as i said, great question. look forward to learning the answer.

Sunnis follow the Quran n sunnah ( that is the sayings of the prophet (pbuh)... n they give equal preference to all the companions of the prophet ,,, Abu bakr, umar, usman, ali

shias give much more preference to Ali than anybody else ... even more than the prophet n keep a grudge against most of the other companions..

Sufis r mystical..

Ahmedia r NOT MUSLIMS... its official.. one major part abt Islamic faith is that MUHAMMAD IS THE LAST MESSENGER OF ALLAH.. n all Muslims belive that... but Ahmedis or qadiyaanis have their own prophets.... n they deny muhammad bein the last prophet.. n accordin to all the constitutions of Muslim countires.. ahmedis have been declared NON MUSLIMS

Shia follow Ali, Mohammed's nephew, Sunni follow Abu Bakr, Mohammed's good friend. Sufi's are mystical and are the only Muslims who believe they can have a personal God. I don'r know the rest
