Food is more easily available and 'bad' food is cheaper - up size for $1 - why not?!

Also our lifestyles are becoming increasingly sedentary - we sit and watch more tv, play more video games, motorised scooters etc. and the activities of the past are diminishing. I know that in my area i rarely see young kids playing in the streets, and hardly anyone walks down to the local park to play kick to kick, now kids i know get together to play PS2 or x-box or chat online.

So the easy access to food (and the excessive advertising directed at children) and the lack of exercise can play a role.

(this obviously isn't the case for all children, just a generalisation from my own experience)

Look at the portion sizes in resturants and fast food places compared to 30 years ago. Not to mention everyone is on the go which limits us to eat healthy unless we are strict on ourselves and pack ahead. Plus which is cheaper, a bag of celery or a Value Meal? Which is more satisfying????

Internet, cable, game consoles, great tasting food and lazy parenting. I notice a huge increase of video games babysitting instead of parents doing something with the family.
