I suffer from panic attacks also and they really are the pits. The first two I had were spaced out by 4 years and both times I thought I was literally dying. Unfortunatley after the second attack they started to happen regularly and always in the middle of the night, they wake me up. Mine were connected to a particular traumatic event but now they can happen after anything upsetting or if I talk about a traumatic event and they always happen in the middle of the night. I have found Thought Field Therapy (TFT) has helped enourmously. Its like accupuncture but without the needles and you tap a certain sequence on different spots on your body. I have not had a full blown panic attack since I started the therapy but I do still wake up in the night at times and feel one coming but I quickly start tapping and it soon subsides. It sounds daft but it does work. Its worth a go without the drugs. Take care.

Valium or Xanax...but there is a new one that I take...Niravam..it melts on the tongue and goes to work almost immediately...I can take it and drive and even use it at work...it doesn't affect my judgement or ability, but calms me down...the other two tend to make me loopy...

Valium. It's also called, "Mommy's little helper." It's available by prescription only. There are also other anti-anxiety pills out there, but they are usually ones you have to take regularly.
