From an objective standpoint and without claiming a God is non-excisting, i'd say religion can serve to educate people/society into the "right" morals. You could ask yourself if we would have come this far in time without Jezus sacrificing himself for us, likewise other prophets sharing similar teachings with the world. Something to think about...
Religion goes as far back in time as the stoneage , when the sun was considered a god who was feared by many. When lightning and thunder struck it was considered the wrath of that god for presumed wrong doings. It didn't necessarely have anything to do with reality, even today there are still people who have this mindset of randomly assigning circumstances to an act of God.
Today this mass psychology of make believe that you have to fast, that you have to pray x times a day, not have sex bfore marriage, etc... is an ongoing process. The great "unknown" is the great factor feading this mass psychology. Nobody is absolutely sure wehter there's life after death but at the same time nobody wants to go to hell either....so there's a good following, but i wouldn't claim it's always about this life after death mentality. People also need to be part of something, perhaps bigger than themselves, part of a group, part of society, part of a church that gives more meaning to their lives, for the better...
unfortunately some have been misusing this mass psycholgy for their own benefit, it doesn't necessarely have anything to do with being right or wrong, people will follow under the right circumstances. The many religious interpretations (evangelists, mormons, katholics, etc..) under the bible and other scriptures are proof of this. Who's going to be right?
Religious wars like presently in Iraq between the Shia and the Sunni, or protestants and catholics in Ireland are purely driven by people's shortcomings. If you know someone belongs to a certain group that is not yours and there's rivalry between both nobody knows to what extend incidences are going to manifest. You could be best friends with that person in other circumstances but history and the fact that that person chose ideas that are different than yours may put tension between you and him. You could call it collective brain washing...
It's people's nature to divide, and the more the unknown comes in or the stronger and sensitive the subject matter ,the stronger poeple will react. They will fight for what they believe is correct, otherwise their lifestyle that is being passed on by parents to children would be considered a total failure. Who would admit it's wrong ? Not many! The same apllies to other things, not just religion. Thats why there r countries
Our fears for the unknown and our lack of perfect knowledge and other human shortcomings is what divided us... and i think it has nothing to do with what God wants....
A religion should have its place in our society, providing that it doesn't influence another's culture and a lifestyle, and not being used as a means to judge others

Friend you saud to correct you if you are wrong, well my Friend, here it goes, All religions may be a cult, But Salvation is nOT a cult, there is a whole lot of difference between religion & salvation, As far as my church leader telling me what to believe, NO they don't, they just preach the word, & if it line up with scriptures, then it is MY CHOICE & NOT THEIR'S for me to either object it or accept it, & yes religions have killed many people, But Salvation has not kill one person.

i ask your self why childrens continually spell faculties as "skools"... the spelling mistake is often the comparable. As an educator i ask your self... I recommend i don't see "scools", or "sculs" or "sckools"... So, faith could study in faculties, as long as they're coaching Paganism. fake religions should not be in faculties, and Paganism is the only honest one. (SEe what I recommend?... every physique needs their very own faith to verify at school, and whether it have been desperate that a version of Christianity have been taught, different Christian sects could be disenchanted whilst specifics have been taught.... i.e. as became into accomplished in New England with the Westminster Catechism... The Baptists have been given disenchanted, and what in the event that they show the Catechism of the Catholic Church? The Protestants could be disenchanted... The founding fathers have been smart in letting faith be a very own funded concern, with the aid of fact the only way you may nevertheless somewhat pick a faith is that if he/she's somewhat unfastened)

All religion points to the death of those who don't accept it, maybe just a few don't but state that all will go to some level of heaven like the Mormons do. But in fact I believe this is true because all religions as some base doctrine about this so I believe it is coming from some truth - it is twisted and thwarted now but I do believe that it must have some fact to it. I would invite you to search for truth and start in the Bible.

...I wouldn't waste my time being religious, not at all. I was religious too long in my life.
...If you live in the US, then you are free to embrace (or not embrace) any kind of a Gospel you want. I strongly encourage you to embrace the one that saves: in 1 Corinthians 15 we read:
...1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,
...2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
...3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
...4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
...5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
...6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time
...I don't know where you are getting your information, but the Bible tells me what to believe, with the help of the Holy Spirit.
...The Bible and secular historians speak of Jesus of Nazareth, who made incredible claims about Himself - that He is the only way to God, and in fact, He is God? Have you considered His claims? If He is right, then we had better listen to Him and humble ourselves before Him.
...John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life - no one comes to the Father, but through Me.
...John 10:30 - I and the Father are one.
...I am a Christian - I have trusted in Jesus as Savior. I have a relationship with the Living God, and not only is it not a crutch, but it is a whole life support system, and the Christian's eternal retirement benefits are certainly out of this world. He provides us with the best life here, and when we die we go to be with Christ in Heaven - what a deal!
...I pray that you will trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. (Acts 16:31)
...Revelation 22:17 says,
...And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
...Please don't miss it.

Such harsh words my friend. But, i have to say that i agree with you. Religion was created to control people. I think that it is high time people stop allowing pastors and preachers to give them a belief. People say that they believe in God but they need a book and a greedy person to help them do it.
Have faith on your own and forget about the person and think about one self.
I do not read the bible. I pray and ask God for guidance and i ask all of my ancestors for guidance as well. I speak to all the forces of nature and i am cool.
I am in trouble i talk to everyone and i do not have to go sit and listen to a sermon.

You are wrong. But I agree with your "In ANY Religon, where does it say that you should KILL....." You are right, I can't think of one sermon where our Pastor asked us to go kill after we had our Sunday lunch. The Bible has taught me many things that I believe, and so have great teachers, even those of other faiths. Must have missed that chapter on killing again. And, I am real, as is my Faith.

Religion contains God's commandments to safe-guard
the behaviour of mankind to the right path so as to protect human from doing evil. Since we are God's creation, God knows what is good or bad for us.

I can not agree more with you. We all have our own ways and beliefs so why is it that one religon thinks that it is alright to kill you if you don't feel the same way? that is like saying I like red ,but you like blue so I must get rid of you and all others that like blue or any other color than red!!!

I dont see why people keep posting questions like this. I am a christian and nowhere in my penacostal form of the religion or in the bible or anywhere even does it say kill non believers, because, according to the bible, they will suffer the ultimate punishment after death by spending eternity in hell!
And i dont believe because of what the pastor says, i believe because of the difference JESUS has made in MY life!
