If you are physically able to do it (meaning no health issues with arthritis or other disabilities) then it is not difficult to remove wallpaper. It can be time consuming but if you use Dawn and warm water in a spray bottle plus a paper tiger bought at a paint store or Walmart, it can be done quite simply and you can save a bunch of money. I hope the people who put up your wallpaper "sized" the walls before they applied the paper. You will find out after your attempt out scraping. Good luck. Oh, keep a big trash bag near by when stripping to put the wet old wall paper in it as it comes down.

If you can afford it, YES!!! I have stripped (wall paper that is) and it is tedious, messy and just plain frustrating. If you have plaster walls you can do a ton of damage to the walls also. Also, sometimes you can find 2,3 4 even more layres of it, I stripped an entire house and it took me like 6 months, working every day!!!! None of the products claiming they would work to help did and they were expensive. I don't think in reality I saved a dime by doing it myself. Between all the tools and products, not to mention the damage I did by trying it myself that I saved a dime by doing it myself.
also, you can paint over it, or hire someone to do it, people will say you can't paint over it but you can. If yo are the most patient person in the world, maybe give it a go but I would never strip myself again and I am a very thrifty yankee, quite tight with money, use toilet paper that is more like sandpaper cause I am so cheap but the stripping I would pay for. JMO and good luck!!!!

no.
Wallpaper is easy to strip. Either rent a steamer, or use the solution made of water and fabric softner.
Yahoo lookup wall paper stripper and you should find it on a site like www.diynet.com

No! It is not as hard as it seems to remove wallpaper, just time consuming. I usually just tear off the vinyl layer and soak the paper with a spray bottle filled with hot water, wait a bit, scrape off and wash. Well anyway, good luck!

Hell, no. If its a vynl paper, pick off the vynyl first (it comes off in long strips!) If its an 'ordinary' paper, or vynyl prepared as above, I get a garden sprayer & sponge Spray the wall, rub the water in.... then, go round a couple more times..let it soak well, and it falls off so easy. Steamers are a plasterers best friend....they tend to lift the plaster off, particularly in an older house.

as a painting contractor one of the most expensive things i do is wallpaper removals as you never know how it is going to go...it could come off very easily or it could be so difficult ,especially when the glue is very old and wont come completly off,and then you have to skim coat the entire wall,so if I was not a pro I would pay and save myself the headache.

If they charged a reasonable amount, yes. Have spent months trying to prise layers of gloss painted woodchip off. We did pay someone for one room, but he charged a fortune. Most decorators only want to do the easy paint/paper part.

I don't mind decorating but hate the preperation. If I could afford someone to do it I would - if they took all the paper away afterwards.
And I'd make them a cup of tea.

it depends on how big the room is. i did my own once and it took forever and was so time consuming and messy. my kitchen is very big, though. if it is not too big of an area, do it yourself . if you hire someone the labor cost will be crazy. good luck !!
